AT&T announce 4G plans 4G Iphone coming in 2012

AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega gave a keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The focus was undoubtedly 4G, and he was als0 joined by Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha, HTC CEO Peter Chou and Samsung CEO J. K. Shin. Here are some highlights:
•AT&T is accelerating its LTE deployment — it will launch LTE later this year and complete its deployment by 2013
•HSPA+ provides “4G speeds,” and is already widely deployed
•20 new 4G devices will be introduced this year including modems, mobile hotspots and phones
•De la Vega said AT&T will launch a 4G LTE-compatible Apple iPhone next year
•Motorola ATRIX 4G launches this year: 4G LTE, Android OS, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 1930 mAh battery, 10.9mm thick, HTML5 support
•The ATRIX 4G has a laptop dock that basically turns the phone into a full notebook-sized smartbook — very weird, very intriguing — and a home entertainment dock
•HTC Inspire 4G: new HTC Sense UI, HTCSense.com support, 4.3-inch display, Android 2.2 OS, physical location awareness (phone rings louder when in a pocket or bag, then quiets when taken out)
•Samsung Infuse 4G: AT&T’s thinnest smartphone, 4.5-inch Super-AMOLED Plus display, Android 2.2 OS, 8-megapixel rear camera, front-facing camera for video chat
Developing…

ATT shows off a dual core 1 ghz phone

Remember that long rumored Motorola Olympus, a dual-core Android beast that was destined for AT&T? Today at CES, we got a quick look at exactly what that handset (or a handset just like it), now named the ATRIX 4G, has in store for us. The ATRIX 4G sports a dual-core 1GHz processor paired with 1GB of RAM, qHD high-resolution display, HSPA+ (4G) radio, and Android 2.2. The device can connect to a laptop-dock accessory that houses a laptop battery, keyboard and display. From there your ATRIX powers the laptop-like device — a device that Motorola’s CEO bragged had better battery life than Apple’s new Macbook Air. Here is AT&T’s official blurb on the new device:
The Motorola ATRIX™ 4G Android 2.2 smartphone will be offered exclusively by AT&T and is the world’s most powerful smartphone. Featuring a 1 GHz dual-core processor, ATRIX 4G delivers a remarkable combination of application processing power, 4G network speed and a high-resolution qHD display. It will be complemented by breakthrough accessories that include a revolutionary, super-thin laptop dock — for which ATRIX 4G is the “engine” — and an HD media dock that uses ATRIX 4G’s HDMI video output capabilities and processing power to enable a revolutionary browsing, application and media experience. For more information, visit www.att.com/atrix4G (website available after 10 a.m. PT on Jan. 5). This device is slated for launch in the first quarter of 2011, only for AT&T customers.
Although not mentioned by AT&T, Motorola did note that the ATRIX has a 1930mAh battery to keep it powered on and crushing numbers throughout the day (the DROID X has a 1500mAh battery). Who’s ready to rock one of these bad boys?

Also, BCS Title game on Xbox Live has a pretty neat trivia, and prediction game to compete with your friends.

The ATT phone unveiled by Moto today is the most amazing piece of technology I have ever used.
And yes, Wes...Moto announced their new tablet today that will be the first to market with Honeycomb. Also an amazing device!
Looking forward to the show tomorrow. It will be my first time attending.

That might be a good phone but only 2GB's a month is horrible.

I enjoyed Microsoft's keynote.
I'm also looking forward to learning more about Vizio's 21:9 television as they usually price things reasonably enough and it'd be cool to start seeing that format in Walmarts and Best Buys, etc.

The Atrix is a beast. And there will be several others like it in the coming months, and obviously VZW will have a few.
They showed the Optimus 2X on a video absolutely crushing the IPhone loading full flash video on a website before the IPhone was even close to finished rendering the page without video. It was on wifi, and so it will perform comparably on LTE. No 3G phone can compete. You might say the 3G speeds are just fine, until you see one of these LTE phones in action. With the docking station it has real potential to replace home broadband (well, except for those pesky caps).
IPhone won't have it's LTE out for another year? I'm guessing Android is going to make huge market share gains again this year. If the IPhone 5 isn't dual core I think the brand and customer loyalty will be tested.

DROIIIIIIID. At the company’s CES keynote, DROID-maker Motorola announced a new, dual-core Android beast destined for Verizon Wireless. Dubbed the DROID BIONIC, the handset sports a 4.3-inch qHD display, dual-core 1GHz processor, somewhere between 512MB and 1GB of RAM (Motorola’s product page says the device has 1GB of RAM and their press release says 512MB), Wi-Fi, HDMI-out with mirror mode, 1080p playback, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing VGA camera, and, obviously, a LTE radio. The device will be available “early” in the second quarter of this year.
UPDATE: Motorola has reached out to us by phone. The device has 512MB of RAM. Motorola’s product page has an error. That’s our final answer.
Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility Announce DROID BIONIC on Nation’s Fastest, Most Advanced 4G Network New Android Device Combines Dual-core Processor with Fastest 4G Network for Unrivaled Mobile Internet Experience Jan. 05, 2011 LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility, Inc. (NYSE: MMI), today unveiled DROID™ BIONIC, a powerful new Android™ smartphone. Packing a dual core processor with each core running at 1GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power, and 512 MB RAM, the sleekly designed DROID BIONIC smartphone with 4G LTE delivers a mobile Internet experience that’s up to 10 times faster than 3G. This means consumers can stream their favorite music and the latest TV shows with unparalleled quality experience. DROID BIONIC also races through loading of complex web pages and media that take advantage of Adobe® Flash® Player and HTML5, rendering graphics faster than previous generation single-core devices. Motorola’s DROID BIONIC gives new meaning to the word “socialize” by delivering multiple ways for customers to stay connected. With the device’s front-facing VGA camera and See What I See video feature, consumers can share experiences – either via Wi-Fi or 4G – with family, friends and co-workers. A rear-facing 8-megapixel camera also allows consumers to capture their favorite pictures and videos. DROID BIONIC’s multiplayer gaming capabilities allow consumers to challenge friends to live peer-to-peer gaming, viewed through the device’s 4.3-inch qHD quality screen that delivers console-quality graphics. DROID BIONIC’s HDMI connectivity also enables consumers to connect the device to their HD televisions to experience their favorite games, as well as purchased HD content, in full 1080p. And for multi-taskers, DROID 4G’s Mirror Mode function enables simultaneous streaming of video to the TV and on the device. As a fully featured work device, DROID BIONIC comes equipped with corporate email, remote wipe and data security and encryption capabilities IT departments appreciate. DROID BIONIC also features productivity tools such as Quickoffice® for document review and editing, full calendar management, one-click access to conference calling, and a full suite of Google applications and services. “DROID BIONIC brings to life the speed and power of Verizon’s 4G LTE network, giving consumers an unrivaled mobile experience,” said Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. “Whether downloading movies in minutes, connecting with friends or co-workers through video conferencing, or blazing through the Internet, Motorola’s DROID BIONIC is what the 4G LTE experience is all about.” “DROID BIONIC is the epitome of speed, providing consumers with instantaneous access to their personal and work content, anytime and anyplace,” said Alain Mutricy, senior vice president of portfolio and device product management, Motorola Mobility. “By combining such a powerful mobile device with the performance and capabilities of Verizon’s 4G LTE network, we’re empowering consumers to define how they want to live their mobile lifestyles.” The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless’ 3G network. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company’s entire 3G coverage area over the next three years. Yes, that is the future of smart phones. dual core 1ghz with 1 gig of ram is basically where mid-range laptops were 4 years ago. Double that and business travelers can start leaving the laptop at home!
The only flaw here, with your netbook logic, is plans are capped at 2gigs (probably not VZW). Loading full html pages really blows through the data.
Will also be interesting to see how the carriers react. They try to lock-down and monetize tethering, but with this capability tethering becomes somewhat obsolete - just plug in a monitor and bluetooth keyboard.

Nothing to do with phones...but I thought this is pretty good.

I loved Tmobile when I was with them except for the coverage are where my family lives. I hate verizon but they pretty much have a monopoly on coverage where I need it.

Verizon Iphone is coming soon.
Verizon Iphone is coming soon.
BGR has confirmed with a source close to Apple that the company has blacked out employee vacation requests between February 3rd and February 6th — Thursday through Sunday. The four-day vacation freeze has been confirmed to be in effect in several regions in the United States. A recent report suggested the vacation black-out would cover a period of three weeks beginning in late January and extending into February, which still could be true in some regions.
Back in June of last year, Apple picked the dates of 24th to the 27th for its iPhone 4 weekend launch — also a Thursday through Sunday. In addition, Verizon Wireless typically launches new devices on Thursdays. While BGR has not yet confirmed that the Verizon iPhone is the device we’ll see debut on the 3rd, the timing lines up very well with previous reports; no other Apple products have been rumored to be launching in this time frame.
