Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy and LB Scott Fujita planning full-squad workouts



CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterback Colt McCoy and linebacker Scott Fujita are planning a fullsquad minicamp for the team if the lockout lingers on, McCoy told the Plain Dealer Monday night.

"We're talking about it and I think it will happen,'' McCoy said. "Things are progressiing, but it's pending the lockout. The great thing is, guys are willing to come and I know we'll get some great work in on both sides of the ball.''

McCoy has already organized three offensive skill sessions, including two at the University of Texas and one at Baldwin-Wallace in Berea.

"The thing that makes it great is that the guys are so willing to travel to these workouts, to pay for some or all of their travel expenses and to work so hard,'' McCoy said.

He said teammates have helped pay for the expenses of the rookies and younger players. "We're definitely helping each other out,'' he said. "And it will all pay off.''

I like McCoy's leadership. Hopefully it equates to wins.

He's definitely got leadership, intelligence, and other intangibles you want in your QB.

Yeah, I could never see Derek Anderson organizing anything like this...

Cleveland Browns doing their research on Terrelle Pryor for NFL supplemental draft

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns are intrigued enough by former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor to do their due diligence on him for the supplemental draft, a league source told The Plain Dealer.

Whether or not the Browns submit a bid for Pryor remains to be seen. Because Pryor hasn't yet officially entered the draft -- which could take place in mid-to-late July -- the Browns can't comment on him.

Coach Pat Shurmur, speaking Monday at Cleveland Browns Stadium after working with kids at the team's youth football camp, declined to say whether or not the Browns would make a pitch for the controversial quarterback. Teams can submit bids in the round they wish to draft the player and are awarded the player if he's still there. The team then forfeits the corresponding pick in next year's draft.

The Browns will start camp with Colt McCoy as their starting quarterback and Seneca Wallace as the backup. Jake Delhomme, currently under contract at $5.4 million for next season, will only return if the two sides agree to a reduced salary. But Delhomme might want a chance to go somewhere as a No. 2.

If the Browns deem Pryor a worthwhile project, they could draft him and use him as their No. 3. But opinions on him vary.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock recently said "I would set the over-under line on the fourth round. Can somebody take him in the third round? Absolutely."

Mayock said Pryor can be used in wildcat packages in his rookie year "while you develop his skill set."

ESPN's Jon Gruden -- a protege and close confidante of Browns President Mike Holmgren -- thinks Pryor has tremendous potential. Gruden, who highly recommended McCoy to Holmgren, has already filmed a Terrelle Pryor QB Camp special to air on ESPN June 30.

"This is a freak of nature," Gruden said in April at Ohio State's annual football clinic. "This guy is really something with the ball in his hands."

Gruden disagreed with colleague Mel Kiper Jr., who thinks Pryor would make a better NFL tight end.

"Terrelle Pryor can run and he can throw and he's a hell of a competitor," Gruden said. "You might have to cater your offense, to a degree, towards his strengths, but I think this guy can develop his passing."

Extra points: Shurmur said running back Montario Hardesty should be ready for full participation in training camp after recovering from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

So Gruden, one of the most sought after coaches in the game thinks Pryor can throw....but what do I know. Don't let footwedge or dynasty see this.

he doesnt play for ohio state anymore and many blame him for the current state of the program, why would I homer him? Show me more than 1 game where they won "in spite" of Pryor.

agree with that..but then again he is having his QB camps with top college quarterbacks who all have potential, not the quarterback for Central Michigan or something.

September is correct..whoever said osu won in spite of Pryor is a God damn buffoon...there isnt much NFL talent on osu right now, offensively.

That being said, gruden does love about every qb so u can't really take his opinion seriously. Pryor will not be a good.NFL quarterback IMO

Well I thought Newton was a late first round pick at best, and more of a 2nd rounder.

But there is a considerable difference between Newton and Pryor. Newton is a legitimate QB prospect while Pryor needs a new position.

Because he's a project. He's a TE/WR, at best.

Shurmur's WCO is predicated on precision and ACCURACY, two things that Pryor does NOT possess. Pryor can throw a football a country mile and probably through a brick wall but that's not what this offense is looking for. There's a reason that Colt McCoy was the #2 QB on the Rams draft board when Shurmur was there...he's ACCURATE. Not saying McCoy will be the second coming but he FITS Shurmur's WC system.

Let someone else toss their draft pick at a project.

Agree 100%. I think Pryor can succeed in the league but his throwing motion causes too many passes to be off target. He got away with that in college but he will need some work to succeed in the NFL.

I have no issue with Pryor's athletic skills but if he is hellbent on being a QB, Cleveland is NOT the place for him.

Because having NFL talent is the same thing as still having much more talent than your opponent.....

It doesn't matter if they are NFL talent or not, they're still better than everyone on their schedule talent wise.

To think otherwise is borderline insane.
