I know, but we've heard it for so long now that we are working to get better just to start the entire process over again. I do believe we have the right men in place (as soon as we hire a true O-Coordinator) to build a winning franchise.

this is why i'd stick with colt for another year. sure, he might end up being the problem, but i doubt we find out the answer to that question with the talent around him being non-existent. get a blackmon and a rt and see where next year takes us

What is a "true O-Coordinator" going to do though? Uncle Pat will STILL be calling the plays.

It may just be my opinion but it's pretty obvious that Heckert is doing it the right way. Not since the early return (1999-2000) did they try to build through the draft. It's always been a new HC (Crennel, Mangini) bringing in their former washed up guys (Ted Washington, McGinest, every washed up former Jet, etc).

It will continue to be painstaking but he will continue to try to draft well and strike on free agents when the time is right. If he hits on his first 3 picks (all should be in the top 40) and adds a couple of good FA's (5 new starters), this team should be competitive in 2012.

A true o-coordinator will at least be in the booth and give him a much better play call. I hate when coaches call plays from the field.

Amen BR. I was telling this to a friend today who is fed up with the Browns. He even said Rizzo was starting to make sense, thats how desperate he was! :D He definatly has a point but all I could say was that I finally believe in the front office and the plan. We look this bad this time next season then I'll start to worry, but in my mind need to give the regime 3 full drafts before I panic.

As for Richardson, you're starting to sway me that I wouldn't be pissed if we drafted him, however I'm sure he'd be hurt and never live up to his potential as the Browns tend to have that sort of luck with players.

That makes Eric Mangini seem like a pretty good coach.

I don't question that Mangini was/is a good coach but like Butch Davis he was a piss poor talent evaluator. I like Mangini's philosophies (tough, disciplined, run the football) and he's a very intelligent football mind....just couldn't tell ya what a football "player" was if it slapped him in the face.

Side note...

If the Colts deal this pick and keep Peyton Manning, then the Cleveland Browns will be the frontrunner to land Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck’s dad Oliver Luck played high school football in Cleveland.
The Browns have the King’s Ransom of picks that the Colts would demand for Luck. Cleveland could offer both of their 2012 first rounders, a 2013 first rounder, a 2012 2nd rounder, and a 2013 2nd rounder or Colt McCoy as a successor to Peyton Manning down the road.


Adam Schefter stated on Sunday NFL Countdown that the team trading for Luck would have to offer 3 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks for Luck. The only teams with the luxury of executing this trade are the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the New England Patriots. These 3 teams have 2 2012 first round picks and a 3rd 2013 first round pick that they could use if they wanted to deal the pick to move up.


Cincinnati has Andy Dalton and New England probably would not give up on Ryan Mallett after one year or draft a quarterback of Luck’s caliber to sit behind Brady for 3 years. Luck will have some leverage if a team deals the pick and multiple teams want him. By process of elimination this means that the Cleveland Browns would be the only team who would have the ammunition trade up for Andrew Luck.

One of my buddies posted this on Facebook....interesting if true

So as a Browns fan, I want my head coach to get fired up, I want him to be pissed if we lose. What happened this past Sunday though, crossed the line.
I went to the game with my brother in law (worlds biggest Browns fan) Me and my father in law sat in his season ticket seats sec 130 row 9. He, my nephew who is 8 and my sister in law scored tickets on the 50, 6 rows behind the Browns bench. Below is what happened next:
"My wife, 8 year old son and I were sitting in section 134, row 6, seats 9-11. With 33 seconds left in the 3rd Quarter, the Cleveland Browns kicked there 4th field goal of the game. As a fan, I stood up as Coach Shurmur approached the Gatorade cooler to get a drink and said "We go for 6 points in this league, not 3". Coach Shurmur proceeds to take a sip of his Gatorade and then shouts to me "FUCK YOU". The whole entire section stands up, not excluding my 8 year old son that just witnessed a professional head coach in the NFL league address a FAN with such vulgarity. I was stunned, the whole section was in awe and my son started to cry."
"Mid way through the 4th quarter, coach Shurmur again approached the Gatorade station and sought me out. I stood up and asked "Are you going to apologize", and he nodded his head in a YES motion. I again, was caught off guard that a head coach would be so engulfed with a Fan and not concentrating on coaching during an NFL Game. His actions were so appalling, that he knew to come back and apologize, that is how severe the situation was."
My brother in law sent this email to the Browns on Sunday night.....Monday morning he received a call from MIKE HOLMGREN apologizing and repeatedly asking if my nephew was OK. He talked to him for 8 minutes. Holmgren is a class act. Lets hope Shurmer follows suit...

I want to know who Adam Shefter knows already what the terms of trading the first round pick for Luck would be considering we don't even know what fucking team would be drafting there. Nice speculation there BSPN.

Shurmur's response was out of line, IMO, but if you're going to play 'armchair QB" from the stands you might get a response. Not exactly the appropriate response but still a response. Kinda reminds me of the old Phil Savage "FU....go root for Buffalo" comment.

You could tell in his postgame presser he was starting to crack. When asked about the Alex Smith fumble & not taking a shot at the end zone he kinda snapped. He'll be a basket case by the time Baltimore & Pittsburgh get through with him.

I noticed him getting pissy with the reporters too, I hope he doesn't crack. I would like for the rotation of coaches to stop, unless we can get a gruden or reid in the offseason.

It's not really much of a stretch. Indy pretty much has the first pick wrapped up. The closest team has 2 wins and Indy still has to play New England, Baltimore and Houston. I don't see Dan Orlovsky or Curtis Painter winning a game and I don't think Peyton Manning coming back would help them either.
