With Lynch, Nix, and Tuitt set to be as good as anyone along the DL, it will free up LB's like we haven't seen before. Who do I think will benefit the most? The "Dog" linebacker position and the speedster Ben Councell. A good read:

Carrico, Brindza, and Golson are moved into their dorm rooms today. Lynch and Williams are expected tonight or tomorrow.

As of 1:02 there is a rumor Carlisle has verballed to USC. Not a surprise.

EDIT: Confirmed. He's a Trojan.

I know Notre Dame is going to sign two RB's in next year's class, but I wonder if they offer someone else since Huggins doesn't look like he's coming.

There's an article on Rival's talking about the top 10 surprise players from the All-Star games. 3 of the 10 are ND commits. You especially have to love the attention Ben Councell is getting. BK picked this guy out early in the process, and now he's considered a top prospect likely to get a 4th star when Rivals updates their rankings. I know it has been said here before, but this defensive class is the best at ND in a real long time.

I have to agree, especially on the Dline where it all starts. I think Kelly will prove to be better at getting in the right kids that perform well in his system. The Dline class is just insane though.

I read somewhere that ND didn't have any player over 6'4" on the defense this past year. Every recruit for the front 7 this year is at least 6'5". Kelly said from day one that length and athleticism were two of the main traits he was looking for for DLinemen and LB's. I think he also said he has specific sizes for each position on the field that he is looking for to fit his system and its great that he has been able to find those guys and that they are also athletic as heck. He has also been interested only in players that have been used to winning in HS.

I don't think I would agree with only being interested in players who were on winning teams in high school, or players that aren't necessarily tall enough. Hello, look at Golson.

That WR from South Bend was on a pretty bad team, and I thought Daniels' team was rather mediocre too.

I think he said that he has specific heights/weights/ and even body fat % for each position on the team. That doesn't mean he wants the whole team to be 6'6". For the OLB and DE positions, he wants length and I think he did a good job of filling those needs with this class. He said he has used those same measurements as best as he could everywhere he's coached, but I'd assume he has a little larger pool of candidates for 6'5" OLB's at Notre Dame than he did at Grand Valley.

I know they told him they wanted him to gain fifteen pounds and be a run-stopping DE, but I have a feeling he could end up at OT or DT. Either way Notre Dame is loading up in the trenches and it's good to see.

Kelly was at Troy Niklas' house today. Someone needs to play OT, it would definitely end up being him if he signs with the Irish.

Getting Huggins and Niklas would be slick as hell. If Huggins could convince the Jersey speedster to switch from Rutgers....I'd shit my pants.

I think I saw with all of the commitments and the guys that are expected to come back for their 5th year, there are 3 open spots left of the 85. This is assuming everyone that has committed stays Irish and signs LOI's. Basically 3 of the following would have spots: Niklas, Huggins, Haynes, Romine, Nuss, Ragone, and RUFFER.

Scout bumped Koyack up to their #1 TE and gave him a fifth star. I'm not sure if Tuitt had a fifth star on Scout, but he does now, and was bumped to #10 DE. Aaron Lynch bumped up to #2 DE, and Ishaq bumped to #4 DE.

It's only because they committed to ND.

I think I read on Irish Envy that Tuitt just got the 5th star and the higher ranking after whatever all american game he played in. Lynch and Williams also moved up after their week of practice and all american games.

Fucking knew it........I had a bad feeling with him taking that visit to GaTech. Let's hope Kelly can perform more magic.

Too bad Tuitt wasn't an early enrollee. I think Kelly still has an in home visit and I'd assume Diaco would be tagging along.

Caught me. :)

I'll say the same thing I said there:
IrishInColumbus;448697 wrote:Hounshell is what? 6'6 and will be ~285lbs? Obviously he won't be a stud the moment he steps on campus like Tuitt will be, but if I'm going to lose either Tuitt or Lynch, I'd rather it be Tuitt. He is a run-stopping DE, and in my opinion it's easier to get Hounshell to bulk up and be nasty in the interior than it is to get someone as athletic as Lynch to torment a quarterback every snap.

That's my spin and I'm sticking to it! :(
