Back in the first week of October I took a job that had me move from Toledo to Washington DC. I applied for the position in Ann Arbor but it was filled before I interviewed so after being given the choice of where to move I chose DC. Recently the same position opened up in Kalamazoo and I am giving thought to trying to take that position. I cant decide if I should discuss this with my current regional manager and see if it is possible because of a few reasons.

Reasons to stay in DC
1. Our 15 person team is currently only 11 people and I don't want to leave my boss struggling to fill another position.
2. The DC region is a very high volume area where I have exposure with the higher ups in my company
3. I've been with the company for 3 months and don't want me moving to affect my career advancement within the company

Reasons to move to Kalamazoo
1. DC cost of living is not worth living here anymore
2. Don't really care to live in DC anymore or deal with the traffic
3. Girlfriend I intend to marry is in Toledo and just took a new job

Any advice??

From experience I can tell you, reason 3 from "Reasons to move to Kalamazoo" is why you should at least attempt to get the job in Michigan!

My company won't let you apply for jobs without supervisor approval if you haven't been in your current job for at least 2 years. This is why. I say do it if you're accepted for the job and the company has no rule preventing it.

DC may be 96% shit, but Michigan is 100% shit. Stay in DC. Tell your broad to move to you. Show her who's Tony Danza.
