I've purchased/played multiple games over the past few weeks with not so great results; basically having a tough time finding really good new game. Here is a list of what I've bought/played...
COD Black Ops - Bought this the day it came out and I haven't played it in about 3 weeks. Very disappointed in the game, a huge step down from MW2 as far as maps, guns, graphics..... I like wager matches but overall I don't like the game.
Fallout New Vegas - Played this for a couple days and had mixed feelings, I didn't really understand what was going on. I thought it would be cool to roam around, but then thats all I did (on top of steal things I had no idea what they would be used for).
MAG - I wanted to play this for a long time but just bought it a couple weeks ago. I love the idea, and the gameplay is much different than COD. You don't just run around shooting people, because there are so many people that if you are in the open too long you are dead. The annoying part is that it is hard as hell to kill people; I'm lucky if I get 4 kills in a match. It just isn't very smooth like COD.
Red Dead Redemption - I bought this right after MAG and it's the one game that turned out to be a hit. GTA in the wild west and I love it.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - I got a Gamestop giftcard for christmas so I got this game yesterday. I've never played any of the AC games before but I always thought they looked cool. Well the first 30 min of the game is people talking and I lost a lot of interest fast. I'll give it another try but I think I was expecting more.
Games I was considering:
EA MMA
Medal of Honor
NBA2k11

2K11 is great. If you are into sports games, 2K11 is a must.

it lets you know what your doing if you are having problems.
what games do you like? it would be easier to suggest something you might enjoy.

I second...or third Mafia II.
Very underrated game, but very fun.

Go to a bargain rack, buy Uncharted....the storyline alone is worth the play through, then of course Uncharted 2 blew Uncharted out of the water, great story continuing the saga....great cover based gameplay, love those games.
If you like the Metal Gear Games, Metal Gear Solid 4 may be the hardest, and most thought out, Metal Gear games to date. Great Story Line, good gameplay, but a LOT of cut scenes to sit though, those a lot of them are interactive.
Finally, go on the PSN, download Pac Man Anniversary Edition, I got completely addicted to that, it was the best 10 bucks I ever spent! If you are old school, its a good time.
Those are my suggestions...I personally am a Black Ops whore right now, I cant get enough of it!

Also, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and MGS4 are all very great games and solid recommendations.
God of War III is another great one.

I've always loved the Metal Gear Solid games. I'm not sure if they have one for PS3. But if they do, I'd blindly recommend it.

Little big planet 2 comes out today. I will be picking it up soon. The demo was pretty sweet, who else is getting it?

New to this system and it’s games. Don’t play much, maybe 2-3 a week for an hour or so. Looking at the following which all have been mentioned here: Uncharted (1 then 2) Red Dead Redemption and Heavy Rain. Anyone have all of them and suggest one over another?

Uncharted 1, then Uncharted 2 for sure.
Red Dead is great as well, Heavy Rain I never completed but it's pretty solid...Can't go wrong with any of those titles, but I say go with Uncharted 1, then 2.
