He's been fired. Just reported on ESPN. Not a surprise.

Don't understand firing a coach with 1 game to go in the season....what does that solve?

Bad decision to let him go.

Allows him to spend New Year's Eve with his wife...and family.
5-10 in a division the Browns and Bengals could win...sad.
With the Rooney Rule he will get 729 interviews in the next decade so he will land on his feet for sure...

It's the world we live in these days. No matter how good a coach is, if he doesn't produce winning seasons he gets fired. I think a lot of teams fire their coaches too quickly. If they stick with their plan for longer than 2-3 years, maybe they would be much further ahead than firing/hiring a new coach every three years.

I'm not sure why they couldn't wait 1 more game...but this had to be done. He was losing control over his team...couldn't decide who he wanted to be his guy at QB..going back and forth back and forth, getting into arguments with his players, and just hasn't done anything to help save his job. I think being a head coach is too much for him right now...maybe try being a DC first, see how that goes and maybe look at being a HC later on down the line.

Mike Brown will hire whomever he can get that will
a) be inexpensive
b) let Mike Brown be in control.

They might have fired him to make a run at Harbaugh before Michigan does.

That's why I could see Brown going after him.
He's not gonna go after someone like Gruden. It will be someone who just got canned or a coordinator. It appears most think Zimmer has no shot at the job.

Singletary had to go at some point. His intensity and passion were great for a while, but at some point he has to have some other impact on the team. Some of the ESPN guys were saying he is more of a CEO type of coach, wasn't really too involved in the game planning/preparation and was more of a motivator than anything else. He made a mess of the QB situation by flipping back and forth, and then I thought I saw he and Troy Smith got in a yelling match on the sidelines today?

haha yeah he did about 20 minutes ago
You have to wonder if 49ers fired Singletary to take their best shot @ Jim Harbaugh before Michigan or someone else does post-Orange Bowl

hmm, well post orange bowl doesn't make sense. The NFL season would be over by then anyways. If they made this move for that, it would be to talk to him this week before Michigan's game.

This move makes no sense. Everyone knew he was going to get fired but with one game left makes no sense to me. If they wanted to make a run at Harbaugh they could have done that with or without Singletary as Coach. Some NFL Owners make no sense on what they do IMO.

Mort said that the timing probably had to do with the fact that the 49ers were eliminated from playoff contention (no chance of winning the NFC West) with today's loss.

I was a big Singletary supporter, I liked his old school mentality. Liked that he didn't coddle these pussy premadonnas. He's imploded though, not sure I'd even want him as a DC if we lose Rob Ryan this season.

Singletary seemed as if he was in over his head from day 1 (dropping his pants at halftime). There was no excuse for this team not being in the mix for the division crown the past 2 seasons. That division has been horrible.
The QB roulette he used this season probably sealed his fate. In his eyes he probably thought that it would help save his job if he could catch lightning in a bottle. But to those on the outside it just looked like a desperation move. I'm guessing the final straw was arguing with Smith on the sideline.

I wish Mike would have slugged TWHPIH before they fired him.
