Have any of you ever tried any of the work at home job opportunities found online? I am wondering if any are really worth trying out, or are they all pretty much scams?

If you want to work at home and make some extra cash online...Ebay is a great way to do it. Just gotta find your niche in the online auction community.

Used condoms. It's amazing how much people will pay if you put a celebrities name in front of the description.

I was able to quit my job and I make $300,000 a month working part time.

I made about $20K this year doing some of that, but it was mostly self-taught. That isn't to say that none of them work, but I'll let you in on a few little secrets:

a) You WON'T even sniff CLOSE to the amounts they discuss on their respective websites. The stats on websites like that are always the record days/weeks/months/etc. for the person/people who own(s) the site. For example, my best stat this year was back in September, when I made almost $1400 in just eleven hours (4PM to 3AM). However, that was VERY much the exception to the rule. That's more than twice my average week for the year. However, I wouldn't be lying if I said something in the header of the website like, "I Made Almost $1400 In Less Than Half A Day! Let Me Show You How I Did It!"

b) It will take LONGER than you think. If you see 10 sales in the first 6 months, you're in the top 1% for everyone in the first 6 months. In fact, the most recent study I saw (admittedly from November 2008) showed that of less than 3% of everyone trying to earn a living online can actually do so. Of that 3%, less than 25% make six figures a year. Most, quite honestly, either give up before they see any real success or they never devote much time to it.

c) It will most likely be more difficult than advertised. Some of the sites are honest about how difficult it is to earn good money online, and in THOSE cases, it might be closer. However, there is no "easy" way to make long-term money on the web. It's no "easier" than learning to do any other job. I mean, you can do it in your underpants if you wish, since you can do it from your home, but that doesn't equal easy or quick.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying, or at least not telling the whole story.

Having said that, the numbers they state on their site ARE true in most cases, as the FTC will nail your ass if you post fake ones.

This is actually not bad. However, it's a pretty saturated method, meaning unless you find a pretty profitable micro-niche, you're gonna see a lot of competition, and it's probably not a "full-time income" kind of thing ... at least not right off the bat.

And on top of that, it's definitely work, and since you're selling physical objects, your overhead is higher, and your margins are slimmer. Then, there's trying to find a decent drop-shipper that isn't (a) going to rip you off, or (b) doing something illegal or selling copyright-infringing replicas.

Actually, you aren't too far off. I do sell 'celebrity' items, and they sell quite well. We make between 20 to 30 thousand a year off celebrities.

Ahhh, again, it all depends on your 'niche'. I really don't have any overhead, and it's great. That's why it's so profitable for me. I list, if it sells, great. If not, I don't have a ton of shit just sitting around waiting to be sold.

Precisely. ;) That's why I said "unless you find a pretty profitable micro-niche."

Dropshippers would still be considered overhead, though they DO keep you from having crap laying around your house, which is nice.

Digital products aren't allowed on eBay (believe me, I tried), so if it's not dropshipping, I'm genuinely curious what you're doing, unless maybe a digital product on a "hard copy." (ie CD/DVD ROM, drive, etc.)

PM me. I'm interested to see what YOU'RE doing. We should swap ideas.

I have tried drop shipping. It's not a reliable solution on Ebay. Everyone does it. Far too much competition to dropship on there.

Nah, check with the FTC. The BBB is a neutered dog. Has no power, and it's rating systems are arbitrary (for example, I've seen companies with 0 outstanding complaints who still had an 'F' rating).

If it fits the legal definition of "scam," the FTC will be on its ass quickly, as they're cracking down on Internet scams, and have been for awhile now. There ARE, however, sites out there that aren't scams in a legal sense, but do fit the bill I mentioned above (what they sell will, in real life, be harder, more time consuming, take longer, and probably won't produce the same results).

You're a damn genius. I love it! Very thinking-outside-the-box of you!
redfalcon;610762 wrote:Has anyone on here actually drop shipped? If so,, how well does it work and is ebay a reliable solution?
Yeah, not conducive to eBay. Dropshipping has (I've been told) seemed most successful for people with their own site and their own online merchant account.

Private merchants, Commission Junction, several CPA networks (Hydra, Rextopia, etc.), and probably others as well. Like I said before, it's HUGE for the AAA+ replica sellers.
