Addition by subtraction for the Indians, just another awful hitting catcher for my Rays. Navarro better get back to 2008 form so Kelly can claim his rightful spot on the bench.

Can't really say I care either way about this one. He is like too many other Cleveland players: Show a flash of talent, then smother in the pan.

From the first paragraph of the article..
Shoppach, 29, hit .214 with homers in 89 games for the Indians in 2009
HOW CAN YOU TRADE SOMEBODY WHO HIT AT LEAST 89 HOMERS?!?!?!?!?! CC'S ROFLMAO!!!!

This was one of two players I did not want back next year and the other was Peralta but it looks like they are going to stick it out with him one more year. At least this move will give one of the younger guys the fulltime starting spot at catcher.

Probably just a couple baseballs and a $50 Walmart Gift Card and a free membership to JJHuddle is pending.

What do you think they should get for this bum? A starting pitcher? How about Price, Shields, or Sonnanstine. They will be lucky to get a high A player for him.

I think Price would be a fair trade.

Sonnanstine is horrific. I'd rather have a single A guy than him.

Price or Shields would be just fine though. Maybe throw in Crawford too.

Sonnanstine had a bad season last year, but he was 13-9 in 08. I'd take him for Shoppach in a heartbeat.

from the article...

"Shoppach earned $1.95 million in 2009 for the Indians, and because he's arbitration-eligible, he is in line for a significant raise."

Did anyone think he'd be back?( and that would have been even more true especially if he hit his weight.) Shoppach could have hit .280 and they still would have dumped him(watch what happens with Jamie Carrol)....and you can take that to the bank (they will).

Poor Shoppach...he is reunited with Derek Shelton, who never did a damn thing for him.

I think he should bring in a double A older pitcher.

I'd like to see Sonnastine...Wadsworth Ohio native. SonHits played against him. You aren't gonna get much for Shoppach. I'd like to dream and see the hometown boy come home and do good.

Good thing we did not trade him to Boston last year while he actually had value. Just shows how dumb our front office is. Im sure Acta will turn it all around though...FML!

Yeah, he did.

"The Red Sox have talked to the Indians about Kelly Shoppach; the Reds like him as well. The Indians would want a big league second baseman, third baseman, or closer back for Shoppach. "

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/12/speier-on-the-c.html

A lot more value than a ptbnl.
