by natural resources police officer for not wearing life vests!
“We went in and out of the water numerous times. He didn’t stop us at all.”
They say they were ticketed for not wearing life vests, although both are over the age for mandatory use of flotation devices.
“No, we didn’t have vests on, but we’re not 16 years old,” Abusakran said. “There were personal floating devices on the boat.”

Government is broke and they have to make money any possible way they can. Major change in government policy is needed.

Agreed. Use your common sense. Sometime I don't understand what goes through peoples' heads.

In a world where the right thing is done so little, to see people band together to save an animals life (hell anythings life) is pretty special, and very RARE these days. To have th officer on scene...NOT HELPING, and happily writing a 90 dollar fine to them both, seems a bit outlandish. The fact that the officer didn't check anything on the tickets means they will probably get off anyhow tho.

It boggles my mind that a Natural Recourses Officer...an Officer who is supposed to be out there to protect the environment, wasn't in there getting his hands wet too...what a Douche Canoe...

This has nothing to do with government policy, it has to do with an individual making a very poor choice.

they should publically humiliate hime for writing that ticket.

I think only really stupid people get important jobs. Take you for instance, you're an educator. ;)

Sure it does. He was probably following protocol. I am assuming there is nothing written about not writing a ticket in this situation or giving exception in this situation. So this guy can use the excuse, I was just following standard procedure. Yes, it may get thrown out in court, but he still was just following procedure. These departments and agencies are told to write tickets. They know that if they don't make money somehow they will be soon out of a job.

Should have left the deer. I mean come on, its a deer. If I was somehow drowning or something in icy water, would the deer come save me? HELL NO!

Hahaha, a deer doesn't have the mental fortitude to understand the seriousness of the situation. Apparently some humans wouldn't either?

Did you read the article? This is clearly the misguided act of one individual.
They say they were ticketed for not wearing life vests, although both are over the age for mandatory use of flotation devices.
They were ticketed for not wearing life vests, even though they aren't required by law to wear them. They were given a ticket with a $90 fine, but no specific violation was marked on the ticket. While he may have been told to write tickets to make money for the DNR, I doubt he was told to do something like this. There's also a difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law, and most can use common sense and make that distinction. Clearly this individual did not. Perhaps he can use the excuse that he was following protocol, but it wasn't the protocol (enforcing file jacket requirements) that is the problem. It's the fact that they were given a ticket for not wearing life jackets while rescuing a deer. No law builds in exemptions for such circumstances. The problem isn't with the law or the protocol but with the individual enforcing it.
