Anyone here have an alarm system set-up in their house?
Do it yourself or professional (monthly subscription + contract)?
Or just the good ol' shotty?
Now that we have a baby I have been tossing around the idea of getting some type of house alarm....There are kits on Amazon that get decent reviews for a few hundred bucks, or the usual home security companies that charge $30 a month...
Any opinions?

20 ga. by the bed loaded with buckshot and slugs.
Also have an ADT alarm professionally installed. Wife wanted it because I was working nights at the time. Pretty useless now that I am back on days.

We have ADT. I think the install was $300 and the monthly rate for us now is $37/mo. I don't want it but the lady does.

Free install from brinks but adt bought them. I ended up buying extra keyfob though. I pay by direct debit and get small discount on my home owners insurance.
I pay $28/ month but have been customer for 5 years.

Also, mine didn't drop my home owners insurance much at all.

THIS! If I saved even 5 dollars a month more on my homeowners insurance after installation and monthly, it would be worth it to me, but every company I have gone too and every quote I have gotten doesn't, so I stick to the 12 gauge in the closet method.

I think I saved $32 a year on mine by installing it.

same for me, but i didn't get any notice about any changes to my service. I'd like to get some of the things that ADT offers that Broadview didn't.
EDIT:
It makes a little more sense for me to have it than some of you. I work odd schedules sometimes. being gone for work for weeks at a time. Plus I may end up taking a job as a Driller and working 14 on and 14 off or 28 and 28, so it comes in handy.

It doesn't, but if I'm paying more into a home alarm system than I am getting a break on my homeowners insurance, it isn't worth it to me, which is what I was saying.

Im a gun owner, a member of the NRA and an avid hunter....I believe in the right to bare arms and protect your family...HOWEVER....If you have children in the house, its essential they understand the dangers of the WEAPON and IMHO its not wise to keep it loaded!!!! Accidents happen.
