The Spanks are out of the running for Cliff Lee, according to ESPN.
They also were running an article earlier saying the Phillies are in the mix now. So it looks like it is down to the Phillies and the Rangers.
Personally, I think he stays in Texas.

It stinks that the Yanks aren't getting him, but I'm not going into panic mode.
They beat his club and won a WS without him in '09, and I think they have the pieces to do it again

Not, it is awesome. The Yanks getting Lee is the end of baseball.
Although, the Phillies getting him is not much better.
Please, stay in Texas Lee.

There is NO WAY the Phillies don't win the National League next year. NO WAY.

Halladay, Lee, Oswalt & Hamels ..... You couldn't even draft that pitching staff in fantasy baseball b/c it would cost to much

I called this one last week at BW3's when watching the Browns and Dolphins game with my friends..
This is perhaps the most ridiculous 5 man rotation in the history of baseball.
Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt, and Joe Blanton?
4 guys who would be #1's on most teams and a 5th guy who would be a great #2 or 3 starter.

Maybe on name recognition, and career numbers when they retire may say yes. But right now, Id still go with the 97 and 98 Braves. Of their 9 main starters for those 2 years you had 6 sub 3 ERAs and Smoltz at 3.02

You might have 3 20 game winners off one staff. Crazy just crazy.

For sure the '98 Braves. 88 wins from the starting rotation alone with all 5 guys posting at least 16. They were unreal.
The Phillies will be sick though. I'd put it at more like 3 aces and a very solid #2 (I don't think Hamels has done nearly enough to warrant #1 status). They might win 100 next year if they stay healthy.

The deal is reportedly for 5 years and a $120 million.
The Yankees best offer reportedly was 7 years at $154 million.
He left $54 million on the table to go somewhere he actually wanted to play, and I give him all the kudos in the world because that is alot of money to turn down. He can say it wasn't about the money at his press conference and actually mean it.
Halladay and Lee have combined walked away from over a $100 million (Halladay could have gotten more than double the $60 million extension he signed and Lee left $34 million on the table) the past 2 off seasons because they wanted to goto Philly.
I am not sure what they are putting in the water there, but it says alot when you have guys walk away from big time money because they would rather play there. Clearly they are doing something right organizationally to be such a desired destination.
Between Lee, Halladay and Oswalt the bullpen will not have alot of action as all of them are major innings eaters.

What pieces do the Yankees have in their rotation, that are going to match up with the Phils' starters at this point?darbypitcher22;600192 wrote:It stinks that the Yanks aren't getting him, but I'm not going into panic mode.

Not a Yankee or a Red Saux, but still a Philly. Third worst outcome. Damn.
