Christmas traditions at your house


We as a family go to church Christmas Eve for the candle light service…. Back to our house for snacks and everyone open one present (nothing special just something small)

The family sit around the fire place and we share our best Christmas stories or the things we remember of the happy times as being kids …. The grandkids always what me to tell them stories of my mom and grandparents Christmas. Kinda cool and sometimes sad but great memories…

We have everyone over to our house Christmas morning 10:00 for a Traditional Christmas Breakfast (Christmas casserole) and open the presents. After that some member go to other grandparent homes and other just hang around all day and we play game, sled ride, build a snow man or just do a fun stuff with the kids …or take a nap…..

Sometime around 7:00 we serve Christmas dinner ….. every year it is different menu but the Dinner is a Tradition
we will serve anything from… Smithfield Ham, Pot roast, Roast Beef, Wild Goose (never again), Salmon … it a big feast ………. as a family we will drink lots of wine at this dinner

Christmas Eve - Visit family on dad's side....Visit wife's immediate family

Day - Hang at home in the morning, visit with my immediate family around lunch time.

Month of December --- Watch Home Alone, The Santa Claus, A Christmas Story


We have a 4 month now, so I'm hoping to cut out a lot of the visiting at other people's houses....Too much...

Lots of drinking.

Here's one that few have ever heard of, but is an old German tradition...
(Seriously) Hide a small pickle somewhere in the christmas tree and allow all the kids under the age of 12 to search for it for a special gift.
I'm not sure where the tradition came from (other han Germany) or how it got started, but it has been a part of our Christmas for over 50 years now.

So, you play "hide the pickle" with little kids?


Seriously though, never heard of that....

We have a Christmas pickle in the tree...all you get when you find it is bragging rights, though.


Before my maternal Grammy passed away we had Christmas Eve at their house. We opened presents, had snacks and just hung out. My brother and I would go see our Dad and open gifts there as well. We would head home (they lived half a block away) and watch Christmas Vacation afterwards. Now you never know what's going to happen because of significant others, etc. I always try to be home to watch the movie, though.

Santa doesn't come until Christmas Eve when all of the kids are already in bed. We wake up early and spend about an hour waking my parents up, calling our grandparents and waiting for them to get to our house so we can open gifts. We hang out the rest of the day and then we have our annual "Christmas Day Night" party that evening. We are very close friends with a family that used to live a block away from us before we moved. My Mom went to school with the mom and my oldest brother and her son also went to school together. We switch houses every year and we have food, drinks and play Win, Lose or Draw. Girls v. Boys and of course the ladies always win. It gets pretty heated..especially after a few beverages. It is by far my favorite night of the year.

We may head to the Browns game on the 26th this year...could be a disaster after the party the night before but we'll see.

We open one gift Christmas Eve as an immediate family, my wife and I. It includes the dogs.
