I'm currently exploring graduate programs at CUNY schools and some others in NYC and hoping to take the GMAT in the spring.

I'm looking for an MS or possible MBA in marketing...depending on my score and the school.

Just curious....what books did you use to prepare? Any tips? I'd like to do it on my own without a prep course.

I've been browsing over practice verbal questions for the last few days. I've been doing ok, but also missing a decent amount. I hear the math is pretty basic and no calculator.

what does CUNY mean....whatever it means, I wish the Y wasn't so and Tech was the last word.

Math is harder. I did worse at math and I'm GOOD at math. There are things on there like Geometry and trig that you haven't had since high school. I would focus on at least the obscure math problems such as measurements of a triangle, different shapes equations, and stuff like that in a book. I only did the practice tests that come with it when you sign up so I can't help ya with a review guide.

This site is great help, and helped me get a pretty good score. http://www.beatthegmat.com/. Click the "self study" tab, then click on the 60-day GMAT study guide. It will tell you which books to use, and also guide you which pages you should study each day for the next 60 days.

Also, if you haven't already, go to mba.com and download the free test prep software. The software provides 2 different practice exams, which are practically identical to the way the real GMAT is.

I just looked at one of the schools on the top of my list and score for admission is mid-80% range of 510 to 710. I think I can manage that with self studying if I stick with it and prepare throughly.

Getting in the 500s isn't that tough. You might be able to do that without studying. Take a prep exam to see where you stand.

I don't plan on cramming in a month. I'm taking my time....no way I want to take it more than once.


I'm going to hit the studying hard the first of the year and hopefully take it in April. CUNY Baruch is my safety choice. Its affordable and flexible around my current job. I'm also going to explore international schools. So want to get the highest score that I possibly can. Which is? I have no idea at this point.

I'm currently getting my education background appraised at Copenhagen Business School (no GMAT required there), but the only way I could attend would be a full graduate scholarship....which is a huge long shot. I already need to supplementary courses before I could even attend.

I finally landed a real job in NYC after an awful job search after graduation. I think going to the local CUNY school is the most rational decision, but I'm really tempted to go back to Europe.
