I think that the talent was down(or maybe it is just parity)...just look at the Heisman invitees. Cam Newton had a tremendous season, but he won by default..just like Troy Smith did. I think anytime "big time" universities are down like USC, Texas, Florida and few others...college football seems a little lackluster.

Great? How so?

I enjoyed college football as much this season as any other. Save the Cam story line, what's the issue? Boise shitting the bed? please
TCU joining the Big East? But no mention of Nebraska...

This guy doesn't like the BCS. Wants to see it fall apart. Whines about the bowl matchups as uninteresting but offers no support.

Hardly a literary masterpiece imo.

Pehaps but he was dead-on with this comment:
It’s seasons like this that a playoff would bail out college football. The drama of such a system would create more story lines that would help mask the ills of the sport.

Did the play-offs and world series mask the usage of steroids during that era?

That's just more whining, and quite lame.

Playoffs will solve NOTHING.

There will just as much screaming and wailing about who gets in and who gets left out as there will about the lack of a playoff.

Agreed. Additionally, the high school talk on this (and other) boards shows that people seem to want to talk about the subjective as much or more than the objective. In high school, you have state playoffs. What is a substantial amount of the talk about? National polls. If a college playoff were started, much of the talk would revolve around year vs. year champions. A strong argument against a playoff, actually.

This is true, hell look at 65 teams now 68 I believe, in college basketball and there is still bitching about who is left out the basketball tourny so it will be worse in football. If they did 8 teams, the next 8 in the rankings would bitch. If they did 16 the rest of the top 25 would bitch!

You consider that a strong argument against a playoff?

This was a very down year for CFB. There is no doubt about that. Mediocrity across the board.

The other thing is, since Auburn and Oregon DID win out, everyone knew they were going to? And that is why the season sucked?

So lining up all of this mediocrity into a bracket would somehow salvage something?

I had another good season against the spread which is really all that matters.

So what? You'd rather hear #3 and 4 bitch, that actually have legit bitches? Or #9 and 10, who should have played better to get in the top 8. Please.

No what I was saying is that the bitching will not stop just because there is a playoff and I want a playoff that is all I was saying!

Yeah there is no way around somebody bitching I guess. But an 8 team playoff would still be better than the current and previous system.

At this point, I would be ok with the "and 1" game. Nothing wrong with the winner of Whisky/TCU playing the winner of Auburn/Oregon

I will disagree with you on the first point. I don't see how what people are discussing is a moving argument either for or against a playoff. It's completely irrelevant.

And no, I don't think what has been a down season would be salvaged, but I do think it would be at least moderately more entertaining with a playoff.

College basketball was very mediocre last season too. It was still more entertaining to see Butler make a run to the finals than it would have been to have Butler paired up with Illinois in the Toyota Who Gives a Fuck bowl while Duke was simply matched up with Kansas in the national championship game without either team having to win their way there.

I think we'd all be surprised, if we could go back 20 years and implement a playoff, at who the actual National Champs would be.

All I want is a +1 and for a team to have a winning record in order be bowl eligible...

The way to accomplish the latter is to not watch games that involve .500 teams, and to encourage everyone you know to do the same.

lol @ people using "People will still complain about who is #8 or #9" as a reason to not have a playoff.

I love having this debate, but when people post garbage like that, it makes my head want to explode
