You can't force a kid to learn and not every kid starts with the same level of intelligence. So if we have kids who aren't what they call book smart and kids who just don't give a shit, then they'll bring test scores down.
It doesn't mean they don't have the resources available at school to be a good student. It just means they don't have the ability or they don't have the motivation, among other factors that come into play.
Other factors that have been shown to influence test scores: number of parents at home, parents educational background, type of community they live in, and poverty rate.
There are also questions that come up about how telling standardized test are when it comes to measuring learning. Standerdized tests are NOT designed to measure the quality of learning or teaching....
From what I'm reading I don't think our views are very different.
I was responding earlier to the assumption that Steubenville had a better education than other area schools.
Yes steubenville has nicer biuldings, but I don't believe the education is superior.
