Gotta love the justice system in our great country.
As a person who nearly lost a family member to a drunk driver, please excuse me for not feeling sorry for this P.O.S.

Another person from Trumbull County that went to school in Hiram was also killed by a man with 11 prior DUI's. Out justice system is indeed a joke.

So ridiculous. I am a firm believer in mandatory jail time on your 2nd offense (and God forbid every offense thereafter).

On Tuesday, Urso stood beside his attorney, Anthony Consoldane, without emotion as the sentence was read. He offered no statement, though Consoldane suggested that it was “unfortunate that we got to this point” because “somebody four, five, six DUIs ago should have been able to do something to stop this.”
Yeah, it's called the drunk driver should have done something to stop this. This man obviously just doesn't care.
And it's people like his attorney that enable our courts to go soft on judging on matters like this. STFU

I think it is more of a statement to alcoholism, as well. The man just couldn't stop drinking. We all know that when we are drunk, we do stupid things, and that includes get behind a wheel.
I feel sorry for the guy, but just because of the alcoholism that had control over him. I don't feel sorry one bit for him and his sentence. Perhaps this will help him clean himself up. Perhaps this is what he needed.

You are suggesting that he had no choice in the matter, as far as driving.ernest_t_bass;573679 wrote:I think it is more of a statement to alcoholism, as well. The man just couldn't stop drinking. We all know that when we are drunk, we do stupid things, and that includes get behind a wheel.

Not to mention the fact that he's already killed somebody by drinking/driving. And to feel sorry for somebody after 15 times is suggesting that he has a learning disability, which is not the case.
I just had a friend come back home from a month at The Watershed in Florida. My friend can finally admit that his "disease" alcoholism is to a large degree a disease of choice.
There are circumstances where I'd agree with you, and have some compassion to a degree. This is not one of them.

He did/does have a choice. I just feel sorry for the fact that the disease has that much control over him, that he would make those stupid choices that many times. I don't feel sorry (in the least bit) for the consequences he has received, and I wish that they would have been given earlier. I feel "bad" for anyone that is struggling with alcoholism b/c I have seen what it can do to people and the people around them.

I getcha Ernst. I just can't stand it when people like that lawyer try to spin it like somebody else should have "done something" for the DD, when nobody else can. Kudos to the judge for finally dropping the bigger hammer.
I don't see how this guy can even have access to a car. The article doesn't say whether he has any sort of liscense or a title to a vehicle, or even is insured. He should have none of that, ever again.
