Looks pretty cool and around this time I see a ton of commercials around this time of year. Is it worth the 2-3hr drive? Just looking for something different around the holidays.

It's worth it to see the lights.

I've been to Oglebay dozens of times as a kid, and I enjoyed it all the time.

i've heard it's awesome in the winter, i've only been there in the summer.


if i had young kids, it'd definitely be a routine thing.

Better when there snow on the ground and everything is covered ....

I havent been there for the winter but I did go golfing there this summer..... nice place

interviewed for a position in Wheeling years ago and they took us there to see the lights as part of the tour...definitely awesome.

It's pretty cool, but the driving tour of the Christmas lights is only like an hour. However, there is a casino on Wheeling Island with dog racing, slots, and table games. Plus, next weekend is the West Virginia football championships on wheeling island. Wheeling also has a hockey team, the Wheeling Nailers.

I would recommend it. The lights are top grade, and I'm pretty sure that they've added some new animated ones.
*There is no fee, but they do ask for "donations" per car/bus load.
If you get there early enough, there's the Good Zoo - for the kiddies. And Always some sort of special attraction. Plus, they have the astronomy dome thingy.
It's been a long time since I've been there. Mainly because I'm local and over it.

I can't stand them. Several years ago my wife wanted to go see them but moving like a snail up a mountain start and stop for what had to be close to an hour pretty much ruined my mood so the 45-50 mins of driving through the lights was an afterthought for me at that point and I've refused to go back since. Objectively I know that they put on a hell of a show but I will never go through that hassle again.

Equalizer, what day/night did you go? Weekends are terrible. That's usually when you get all the buses and tourist types. Weeknights, just as soon as it gets dark, is the best time to go. MUCH less traffic.

Went skiing there 20 years ago. My sister is an experienced skier and it was my first time on skis (I was in my mid-20s or so). It was a 168 foot drop (not a long slope, top to bottom in about 10-15 seconds maybe), steep for a beginner, and not the best stopping area at the end. Not bunny rate speed. I didn't get hurt, might have wiped out a few times, and generally had fun. It would have been a better experience if I had gone somewhere where I could have learned to start/stop/turn at a slower rate of speed.

There are three 18 hole courses there, plus a range (aka the skisope still I think), and a pitch and putt for beginners. It has many opps for golf, not so many for skiing. They have cabins that my mom has stayed at, and a pretty good sized lodge with a small indoor pool. In the summer, the outdoor pool is pretty good sized. I have been to several CE seminars there, and the food was excellent. We only live 25 minutes away or so, so it's hard to justify the overnight rates when you live this close, however, I think they do have some specials there from time to time. Check their website maybe.

We used to take the kids there every year. They're older now and think it's lame. I always did.
