player.

A 19-year-old Northbrook woman died of an apparent suicide nine days after telling University of Notre Dame police that she had been sexually attacked by a football player in a dorm room.

More than two months later, Notre Dame refuses to publicly acknowledge the case, and what actions university officials have taken to investigate her allegation remain largely unknown.

They refuse to publicly discuss the case, which is the norm in these kind of cases. They turned a voluminous report to the DA's office Friday.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/notre-dame-case-forwarded-20101122,0,3665454.story

The DA has also issued a press release saying he received the report and is going through it, as per standard operating procedure and he has not made a decision to press charges, to dismiss the case, or to seek additional information.

Also, this was already discussed today on OC. Get a life.

Very very sad that two young ND students who had their whole lives ahead of them had to die this Fall due to negligence, lack of leadership and character within the football program. These are dark times for a storied team that once stood for something good about college football. Travesty on mega-levels if Top Management...(i.e. Head Coach and AD) are not personally held accountable for these disgraceful and dispicable acts of wanton mis-management. Anything less than firing these two individuals is an indictment that the Irish football program is considered more important than the lives of University students.

You're a fucking moron. The women wasn't an ND student. Did you even read the article? Yes it's very sad that she committed suicide. But you can't blame Kelly or the AD for this what do you want them to do follow ever kid around 24/7? Not possible.

sherm I don't know if any other will come I believe they have more class than those 2.

OK she was a St. Marys student...same diff turtle boy. Don't know about your company (if you even have a job...) but at mine if two individuals died due to derelict supervisory controls, you can be guaranteed Top Mangement heads would roll. As they should and as would be expected.

No one knows if this young lady died "due to derelict supervisory controls".

Cases involving such such allegations as stated in the article can be very complex and it's my opinion that it's not appropriate to rush to conclusions. Such a rush to judgment would be disrespectful to the young lady's family.

I love it. Even non-ND fans are calling the resident trolls out.

In regards to the story, sad no matter what the circumstances were. I'll wait for the investigation to conclude before stating further opinion on the matter.

I agree, there are some ABSOLUTELY MORONS on this thread and trolling other ND threads as well. Zero class!!

That being said, if this were OSU or any other major team, it would be NEWS and MANY(namely one individual on this thread) would be all over it. So please dont' feed me the bs of this or that because its ND.

I also happen to believe ND tends to keep things VERY tight in terms of situations like this. They are good at...well, sweeping things under the rug when possible. The other distrubing part about this..is if this happened and was reported by on Sept 1st...why is it just now, almost 3 months later, getting passed onto the DA? And why is the athlete in question still playing/suiting up? I realize innocent until proven guilty. But IF something did NOT happen, then this would be done and over with. But 3 months later...?? Scratching my head on this a bit.
The woman in question was obviously mentally ill. But, if this situation put her over the edge...that makes it even more sad.

there's a guy named Matt Patrick from South Bend discussing this on 700 WLW right now...there's much more that will be coming out soon on this, and it's not good for ND...I really feel for BK--what a nightmarish first year!!!

This headline will be eaten up by national media because a) there is a girl involved (see: missing girl headlines every other week) b) it deals with football (america's favorite sport) and c) there are deaths, rape, violence, etc. involved.

But really, this story is probably nothing.

Do Tiernan and NCF realize it's standard protocol to not realize the names of students until there is an actual indictment? The last thing any university wants is their students being ridiculed in public but being innocent a la Kobe Bryant or a slew of other high profile athletes.

Shame on Notre Dame for not rushing to judgment? It's not they have EVER given athletes protection from the law, what thinks you can insinuate this is different?

Notre Dame has handled this correctly, so please just shut the fuck up.

never said anything about ND NOT handling this correctly... I just gave my opinion on what their conclusions should be once they finally do get around to "handling" it. So now its your turn to STFU.

I am not going to jump on Notre Dame for this one just yet even though I hate them.

Sexual assault is something that I take very seriously and it is not hard to believe that a person would take their own life after such an experience. However, it can happen on any college campus between any two college students, regardless of whether it is Notre Dame or not, and whether it involves a football player or not.

I guess what I am getting at is that if the sexual assault allegations are true, then I will burn the player who assaulted the female, not his football coach or AD. At some point young men have to be accountable.

So two days AFTER her suicide they give the report to the South Bend police? Sorry, but this wreaks of wrong doing somewhere, some how. Very odd. And NO, I am not pointing the finger at Kelly or football team. Just very odd situation on how it was handled within the University and the local police department.

Most definitely Prince...but at the same time HCs and ADs are responsible for creating a team environment that promotes and fosters accountability. When the HC himself demands a student assistant climb a swaying tower in a wind storm I doubt there is much focus on overall safety involving the rest of the team either. And that lack of focus spilled over into an unsafe incident involving sexual assault. Believe me out of respect for the victims families it pains me greatly to have to write these words but someone has to shine the light under the rug.
