Since Massillon couldn't do it for Stark County I sure hope the Dukes can. Good luck Marlington, you made me a believer!

This is going to be a track meet in pads. i watched Buchtel dominate Mooney tonight. I'm looking forward to the game with Marlington. It should be a fun game to watch and a close one too.

Go Griffs!!!!

The only way Marlington scores 31 points is if Buchtel plays their JV "D". The Dukes have no idea of the type of speed and quickness that Buchtel has on defense. I do expect the Dukes to have 2 or 3 sort of big plays out of the triple option. They might get 14 points. Buchtel will adjust and force Marlington to throw. Then Buchtel will crush them.

I think Buchtel will be way too fast for Marlington in this one.

It's coming from a poster that hasn't seen Marlington play much like the Dover alum last week.

#17 Marlington (Alliance) (13-0) by 9 (75%) vs #36 Buchtel (Akron) (10-3)

Marlington has a lot more team speed then you are giving them credit for. You better watch what ya say. How is Butchels line? Big or fast or what? Marlingtons could compete with Ohio States boys at the dinner table. :D Either way this will be a GREAT game. I am happy to see 2 schools playing that at the start of the season no one would ever think of being there. Both are solid.

Go Marlington, make R11 the champs this year. From a Sheridan fan.
Score will be Marlington by 1 or 20 it doesn't matter. :D

Another tough one to figure....I think Buhctels schedule serves them well they will win ...They have a future star at coach ..I have seen them play and they are well coached ..They have been very good and they are going to get even better ..Marlington I hear is very nice ..very big .... They will not pass this week they will try to run ..Akron has supperior speed Marlington will get picked they are going back to the bread and butter.....This game should be a very good one ..Ill take Buhctel although it could go either way.

The computer geeks all had Mooney winning last week by a couple of scores. I admit that I picked Mooney last week. I thought it would be close. I posted a scenio where the Griffs would win , but I never imagined that they would spank the Cards. IMHO, this is the best Buchtel TEAM since the mid '80's. They play together. They play quick and fast. They never stop hitting. They play with heart.

I picked Marlington to win last week. I posted that they were too big and fast for Dover. The Dukes have a very nice team, but they have no idea about how good of a D Buchtel has nor have they played a team with anywhere near Buchtel's team speed. Unless the Griffs implode like they did against Pittsburgh Central Catholic they will win. Buchtel is undefeated against public schools this season. They are 2-3 against private schools, but 2-0 in the playoffs against a couple of tradition ladden Catholic programs (including last week's domination of the defending D III champs).

Should be a great game! I was able to watch Marlington three times this year including last week against Dover. I am sure the Griffs have great team speed and fly all over the field. I can see alot of points put up on this one.

It will be interesting to see what each team runs against each other. IMO Marlington should run it right at them! Thomas will be able to spread the field. I don't care what anyone says, Thomas is extremely fast and has awesome vision on the field. I can see the Griffs spreading the field and using it from sideline to sideline. I will say I was most impressed with the Dukes secondary last week against Dover.

KUDOS for both teams making it to the State Semi's.

Here is to an injury free game.

One more thing! GO MARLINGTON !!!

I have seen both teams play this year and I would put Marlington as the underdog in this one. Buchtel has track speed all over the field which makes them tough and Marlington features 2 great backs running behind a large line. You have to run downhill against Buchtel and not cut to the outside it just doesen't work against a team with so much speed. Also, the Buchtel defensive backs are deceptive - they let receivers get open and then close on the ball once it has been thrown for an easy pick. Marlington has to keep the ball and use the clock to their advantage. Buchtel's weakness is special teams - they really don't have a kicker. Turnovers will decide this game imo....whoever makes that one mistake may be sitting in the stands next week.

Can't agree more big red. Either way there will be a NE Ohio team in the championship game next week to face Watterson. You have two great stories with these teams. A City Series team that has returned to their former level and a Marlington team making its first push deep into the playoffs.

You make some good points. I have no doubt that Buchtel belongs where they are. I just think people know less about Marlington than any other team that made it to playoffs. I have had the pleasure of watching them 6 times this year and have learned a lot about them. I also believe Marlington will win this game and surprise people once again.

Only common opponent is Poland. Buchtel beat Poland 20-18 and Marlington won 40-24.
I can see a big night for the Marlington defense propelling them to a W if they can create some turnovers. Buchtel has played a tougher schedule this season which is paying off in the playoffs. Buchtel's weakness is in the passing game. They take some risks downfield and Marlington needs to capitalize on them. I will say it again.... you can't beat Buchtel by running to the outside, it just doesen't work. Poland had some success running downhill late in the game against Buchtel, but it was after Buchtel lost their biggest lineman. Marlington needs to play Big Red ball and run the clock out on Buchtel to win.
