I avoid Oprah like the plague, but am interested in this years Oprah's Favorite Things show. My brother was nominated and invited to go and will be on Monday's show. The show taped last Tuesday and he can't tell us what he got until after it airs, but if it's anything like today's giveaway, he did very well. He didn't know it was the Christmas Giveaway show until they got there.

Anyone see today's show? I'd love to have gotten the 52" 3-D TV.

Christmas Giveaway show would be an excellent Oprah show to go to. I don't care how much Oprah sucks she does give a lot of good freebies away.

Did he go to the first or second show?

They got TVs, iPads, 5 years of Netflix, etc.

The second audience also got 2012 Volkswagon Beetles.

You are right about that! About 8-9 years ago my ex wife and I won a TV that was priced then about 1100 bucks. Cost me 500 in taxes on it! Wasn't worth it for the TV!

Just sell it if you don't want to pay the taxes.

You would still have to pay the taxes, but selling it would give you the cash to do so with.

He was at the 2nd show. Got the car. Funny thing is his car died yesterday, but he's got to wait till September to get it. And Oprah is paying ALL the taxes on everything as well.

wouldn't paying the taxes be considered a gift as well?

I would assume she would balance all of that out. In other words, if there is $500 in taxes, I would assume she would give you $600, $500 to cover the taxes on the gifts, and another $100 to cover the tax on the $500.

She could give the audience $10,999.00 cash this year and give them the gifts after the 1st of the year.
