I live in the city and my backyard is the country club golf course surrounded by some thick woodlands. Tonight when I opened the door of my walk out basement I was face to face with two pretty good sized deer.
So here is my question let's say I had a crossbow (because discharging a gun in the city is illegal ) and I shot one of the deer, would I be able to process the deer without a hunting license or a deer tag? Could I claim the deer were a nuisance on my property and avoid any legal trouble?
By the way I would never shoot the deer I am just curious as to what the laws allow.

I think the answer is no across the board... Most cities have an ordinance against weapons in general, so most likely the crossbow would not be permitted either. I imagine that if the deer attacked you/family, then one might be able to claim self defense... lol.

I dont know anything about city laws..but i know if you shoot and kill a deer on your property, you can tag it without a hunting license. To tag it you right down time of kill, address of kill, etc. on anything(a piece of paper works) and attach it to the deer.
If for example, a deer was eating your crops, you can get a special permit to kill the deer out of season.

Yes. A crossbow is slow enough that most ordinances will allow it. It's legal in Columbus. You have to tag the deer and take it to the check station

You can not shoot a deer in a residential area in the city unless the city is having a special permit hunt for the day and you will still have to buy a permit before the hunt. You can only kill deer on your own property if you own a farm and they are causing damage to your crops and you will have to obtain a kill permit.I don't think shooting a deer eating your rose bush will get you a permit but it may get you time in jail and a hefty fine.

Where I live you can not hunt in a residential area within the city limits. One of the cities close to me have a special city bowhunt for a weekend out of the year and you still must have a permit. Each city may be different when it comes to hunting but I know you can not just go out a kill a deer on any property without a permit and that includes public and private,When you own a farm you must apply for a kill permit for your own property to kill more than the allotted deer allowed by law.

Each city is different yes. But the actual state law does not requure a special permitpassword;563583 wrote:Where I live you can not hunt in a residential area within the city limits. One of the cities close to me have a special city bowhunt for a weekend out of the year and you still must have a permit. Each city may be different when it comes to hunting
Unless it is your own private property. I kill deer on my property in Coshocton without permits and check them in. I've never been arrestedbut I know you can not just go out a kill a deer on any property without a permit and that includes public and private,
Yes, that is a nuisance permit and most farmers get 5-12, but those are usually out of season and allow the use of a rifle. That isn't what is being talked aboutWhen you own a farm you must apply for a kill permit for your own property to kill more than the allotted deer allowed by law.

I am just used to our local laws and yes I was talking about the nuisance permit.Do you own a farm or a lot of property that allows you to shoot deer on it without a permit?LJ;563587 wrote:Each city is different yes. I did not think that I could walk outside my house in a residential neighborhood and just shoot deer in my front yard without a permit but I guess I learn something new everyday.

No its just a self written land owner's tag. You have to follow all laws, seasons and limits though.

No.
Nuisance permits are actually difficult to get from what I've been told. Have to show crop/property damage that disrupts your business or causes significant financial/safety loss.

@ one time a landowner was required to have at least 10 acres to qualify... but, it has been over twenty years since I worked at a deer checking station.

Nuisance permits are not even in the equation here. Also they are issued by your area game warden, so it depends where u are. But we are not talking.g about that. We are talking abouts taking a deer in season, which is 100% legal without a license or tag on your own propertyI Wear Pants;563639 wrote:No.

The herd is so large that barely anything has regs like that anymore. Pretty sure Sunday hunting is the only oneTimber;563644 wrote:@ one time a landowner was required to have at least 10 acres to qualify... but, it has been over twenty years since I worked at a deer checking station.

I saw nuisance permits and said what I knew.
I was unaware that you didn't need a tag or license on your own property.

Yeah these deer are far from a nuisance to me other than scaring the shit out of me when I opened the door and was looking eye to eye with them.

Next time just whack it on the skull with an old Big Bertha, drag it into the garage, cut it up, fill the freezer and have chili meat for the rest of the football season. Problem solved.

In the state of ohio you have to have 5 acres to use the land owners permit. I ran into this a few years ago. I have 4.5 acres and i am not allowed to use land owner permit but i can get a freaking nuisance permit wtf is wrong with this picture grrrrrrr.
