OK...So my kids want an Xbox for Christmas. Can someone please explain the difference (other than the obvious storage capacity) between the two models? I was talking to a sales guy at Best Buy and he said that the newer games won't work on the 4gb model. I see all the retailers with the 4gb model on Black Friday deals. I'm willing to spend the extra $100 to get the 250gb model if it's needed but would rather buy them some additional games.

Thanks for your advice.

Dude fed you BS. Unless hes talking about newer games as in Kinnect which is dumb right now anyway. I would suggest just spending the extra 100 and getting more memory and wireless connection with it. Here are customer reviews on both of the consoles.

He told me that some of the newer games won't play properly on the 4gb system. Is the 4gb just storage or is it ram?

So really if I understand it right. Any game should play on either system. You'll just be limited on how much data you can save. Right???

Correct.

That guy was a dumbass. The only limitation you would have is the amount of data you can save.

I think they do:
the wireless controller = $10 (more than the wired controller)
the HDMI cable = $20 (roughly)
So you're only really paying $70 for the extra storage. that's not a bad deal.

If they plan to play on Xbox Live (online), the extra storage is a MUST.

If they're just little kids who will never plan online and won't be downloading extra add-ons and things, they 4GB is plenty for game saves alone.

They're 13 and 10. Sorry for my ignorance. They have a PS2 and one of those stupid Wii's. I guess I'm really not up on this gaming stuff. My last system was a Sega Saturn.

Would I be smart to start out with the 4gb system and then upgrade to a larger hard drive later?

don't think the shifty engineers at Microsoft will allow for that. it's my understanding that there can be no upgrade, you either shell out the dough now, or spend the money for the cheap one now and if you need to upgrade, do it all again.

They are still stupid simple to remove or replace it has a pull tab thing that you pull and it slides out. If you can swing it I suggest a version with a hard drive and not just the flash but you could upgrade later if you really wanted. The games will work fine on either.
