Turner, Simpson and Brenner seem to really take advantage of the turf fields...
Last week EC's receivers didn't look all that explosive on turf...

Genoa has grass and i didnt see anything noticeable different hes more of a power runner dosent really see the open field to much last week against CF but make no mistake when he does he can turn it on hes fast on grass i would imagine faster on turf no ruts or divets to slow him down either!!!

I think we will have field turf sooner than later...2 years and we will have it...just an Old Rider thought!

Seems like Orrville City Schools has a lot better tax base than Genoa based on student/teacher ratio, % discounted lunch program, and the big building program they have underway. On the other hand, Genoa seems to be doing pretty good in the 10th grade standardized test scores.

What does it have to do with Friday night - absolutely nothing. I just found it mildly interesting on a quiet night at work...

Haha Orrville does other tests than the 10th grade test...I think that is why you see Genoa higher in that area

Dude...Genoa was getting schooled by Orrville while playing football. Genoa decided to be a tool and talk crap about Orrville while they were losing 28-6. Orrville then released a can of unrelenting whoop-a** on Genoa, who then had no choice but to shut the lights off, light a candle and cry.

This is going to be a great game, but it's going to be hard to beat last year's game!

You know there has been a lot of talk from the Orrville folk about how cocky, arrogant, disrespectful, etc. the 2009 Comets were last year. I read somewhere that a person’s perception IS their reality. Funny thing about perceptions is that they go both ways. So let me give you MY opinion of Genoa’s perception and why we carry just a little chip on our shoulders about all this…

Genoa came into the game last year with the perception of Orville as being totally disrespectful of our team. A big share of this perception started on JJ over the course of the season when a Genoa poster who shall remain nameless persisted with wild claims and predictions for the 2009 Comets. For the first 11 games of the season this poster was either ignored or scolded by most other Genoa posters and periodically slapped down by a handful of established Genoa haters – no big deal. Things took a tremendous turn for the worse when the Orrville game came on the horizon. The very large (and very vocal) contingent of Orrville posters on JJ took grave offense at the over the top statements of our favorite little prognosticator. The Orrville posters “take no prisoners” attitude, the pot-stirring by some third-party troublemakers, and the Genoa folks attempt to offer defense of our program and accomplishments caused the whole mess to degenerate into a trashing of EVERYTHING related to Genoa. To those on the Genoa side, our perception was of a huge Orrville arrogance and total disrespect and dismissal of everything that our program had accomplished in three amazing years - and let me tell you, word spreads fast when you think somebody is calling your baby ugly. So when Orrville’s coach made some (probably innocent) remarks in the local paper about Genoa’s strength of schedule, the die was cast. Showing up at the game, our players, coaches and fans all got to see first-hand what Orrville posters affectionately refer to as Red Rider “Swag”. Given everrything that had taken place the prior week, it simply reinforced all of our perceptions of Orrville.

So we played the game and we all know the result. BUT, I think both teams came away with a healthy respect for the other. The next day I asked my son about his impression of Orville – he said the players on the field were fine and everyone was very respectful as they all shook hands afterwards. His only gripe was about the small handful of Orville kids chanting “Overrated!” after the game, but that happens.

Hopefully this will evolve into a good healthy rivalry between two excellent football programs. Both of our communities have a lot to be proud of. The fairly civil tone of the discussion this year gives me some hope.

Bow down before our superior brains! While it is debateable whether or not our team is as athletic as yours, we know full well that the pen is mightier than the Red Rider sword and the calculator is triumphant to the... shoulder pad. Not only that but it looks like it takes fewer teachers to make our students brighter. Or maybe blocking Facebook from the library computers is really paying off.

So I come home and read through 5 pages, and I learned... nothing. lol. Well ok I actually learned that I am(or was) somehow in the top ten is forum posts and there are posters on here that enjoy stirring each other's pots. As far as pot-stirring goes, I am completely clueless on what is in said pots. Hopefully some sort of chili. All I can say is I am trying my best to add some color to this forum and let everyone know that this thread is not worth fighting over. I can guarantee you none of us know what we're talking about.

Well said Genoa Comet!!! I am hoping that every 2nd or third Friday or Saturday in November Genoa and Orrville can strap it up. Lets make this a regular occurrence. Hoping for a great game.

We never have stayed in Region 14 very long in the past. I am all for it as well. It has given us a chance to learn a little bit about the schools and people in Western Ohio. New count this spring, it will be interesting to see what happens. 1) Mooney was only D III by ONE boy 2)Ursuline was only D V by 4 boys 3) We are the 2nd farthest school district to the East in Region 14. But I sure agree to the nice little rivalry we have generated in just one meeting! Passionate football fans for sure. Go Red Riders!

let's not go there everyone. Click it was the JJ thread in general, and I know it does not represent the feeling of all Genoans, but from the git go most who had an opinion on the game did not even give us the due diligence to even take the effort to find out who we were and what we were about. It was all about Genoa in a blow out....and if we were as goods as some on the huddle from our side were trying to say, then it was Genoa by 21. And I will tell you right now,,,,,Elyria Catholic did the same thing. the way it looked they just figured they do their thing like every other week and they win. did not make one adjustment to us....like we were just going to let 21 run free and catch his 10 balls and 3 tds. We got in his face on the line of scrimmage and did that play after play ...end of that story.

That is what is different this year. You realize that any opponent in the play offs deserve the kudos for being there....any opponent. Your team did not portray that last year...From what I hear this year, .I think you all have been very pleased with how your Comets go about their business. Isn't it refreshing.

That 1 little gesture can taint a whole team/school. It was surely more than 1 cocky fan. There was a lot of pregame parking lot talk of, this game will be over by halftime, Orrville who? at halftime when you were down big there was a lot of crap talk from Genoa fans around the concession stands......

BTW....... If Orrville was beating teams by 50+ week in and week out.. I think you'd see a side of Rider fan that no one has seen. Thank God Orrville doesn't play in the WCAL....

I think that is a very good point Woo. We are hard enough to deal with when we go 7-3! I can't imagine us after a blowout season like Genoa is used too...Bring on the Steelers probably.

Another positive point of fact....... Orrville fan can and will strike the claim each year to Red Rider Tradition.... You walk in that school you can feel it in the air, you can see it in the students eyes and you can view it in the trophy cases.... and yes you can even smell it down by the locker rooms...

Tradition starts somewhere...... Orrvilles started many moon ago.. Genoas seems to have started 3ish years ago. I hope your community sees that and can keep it pumping.........

When I was a wee lad of 7-8 I knew I was a Rider. It was something that was very strong across the elementary schools. even though we weren't on the field or on the courts or mats... we knew without question we were RED RIDERS........

Let me begin by saying that I am not an Orrville Red Rider fan, check out my location and my avatar that should be all you need to know. With that being said I have watched Orrville play three times this season, and the swag they talk about is real. They have a hard hitting team, a balanced offense, and some incredible athletes. But they are beatable. Two things necessary to beat them, you have to play almost mistake free football on both sides of the ball, and you have to have the speed to keep up with a couple of their players or you will be chasing them all night. I am not sure (literally) whether Genoa has that kind of speed.

They do play with intensity but so does everyone who plays in week 13. I am sure Genoa will come out fired up and ready to play as well.

Orrville may have this swag that we have tended to make fun of on this thread (at least I was making fun of the whole swag thing, I think some people were serious). That being said what about Genoa? They have to have some swag or mo jo (showing my age) read back through the Region 14 thread, what two teams did most people predict to win the region? Clear Fork and O-G. Why will those two teams not win the region? Because they played Genoa. Maybe Genoa doesn't have a word to describe their moxy, but rest assured they have it!

Do the two teams and their fans really disresepct one another? I don't know. But I do know respect is earned, and you can take that any way you want to.

Friday night's game is what football in Ohio is all about two good teams, from two great communities who support their athletic programs come heck or high water. Enjoy the game! Don't let the petty BS get in your way of watching probably one of the best games you will see in your lifetime.

The people of Orrville support the Rider athletic programs across the board for sure. These folks give so much of their time and money for our kids. That is the reason every year Coach Davault says each football class is required to do a service project in the summer, and that is also why after a Friday night hard fought play off game vs Triway the entire football team drug themselves out of bed and went around town raking leaves for some of the folks who needed a little help. Yeah, they were tired and sore, but these folks give them so much it is good to give it back not only with the effort on the field but around town as well.
