3 Big 10 teams in the top 10 and 2 SEC........interesting.

Considering both Penn State and Iowa are both in the Top 10 at this point and will likely stay there until bowl games are played, I don't see how it is that unjustified that 1 of those 2 gets an at-large BCS bid if the season plays out in a predictable fashion (i.e. Texas winning the Big XII, Cincinnati winning the Big East, etc.)

If it played out as stated above, you'd have:
SEC: Florida/Bama Winner
Big XII: Texas
Big Ten: Ohio State
Big East: Cincinnati
ACC: Winner of CG (only 1 team gets in regardless of CG outcome)
Pac Ten: Oregon State/Oregon winner (only 1 team gets in from conference regardless of game outcome)

Obviously the Florida/Bama loser will get an at-large and TCU will also get one. If things play out accordingly Boise will also get one. Other than Penn State/Iowa, who is left to take the final spot in this scenario?

Rankings look about right. It's amazing though that despite the Big Televen having yet another mediocre year across-the-board, there are three teams in the Top 10. Does that mean the Big 10 is really not that down or are all the major conferences experiencing off seasons?

Looks good, but I would still put VT and GT before PSU and Iowa. They have looked better than PSU and Iowa as of late. I'd put Pitt and Oregon St. ahead of LSU, as LSU is just not that good.

I'm apt to say that it is because the major conferences are all having a down year. Really, even with the likelihood of 2 BCS teams for the 5th consecutive year, the Big 10 is not that good. We just bring the $$.

Not saying this is my opinion, but one thought will undoubtedly be that the Big Ten had three teams that were mostly better than the rest of its conference while other conferences had five or six teams that equalized each other. So you get a bunch of two loss Big Ten teams and a bunch of three loss teams in other conferences and since the Big Ten teams only really had 2 games to worry about (and then were upset), their record looks better and they get the spots.

I don't care much about the entire top 25, but I find it ludicrous that Iowa is below Penn State. Iowa beat them, beat better teams, and looked better in their common losses. I can't find any way to justify Penn State's ranking even if it is only one spot different.

I think people buy into the ESPN "Big Ten" is crap argument waaay too much. It's definitely a good conference and was actually pretty deep this year. Wisky and Northwestern were both pretty good teams.

Purdue, despite it's bad record, had quite a few close losses to teams like Oregon, and beat Ohio State...

Yeah, the ACC has three ranked teams (same as the SEC), but its two title game participants just got bitchslapped by mediocre SEC teams. Kind of a strange year for rankings.

Iowa and PSU in the top 10 is bogus. Both of those teams are XTREMELY overrated.

Penn State and Iowa benefit by not playing... what are you going to do? You've got to bump them up, can't drop them for not playing....

One of those teams ends up in the BCS, and its probably Iowa in the Fiest at this point

I can't disagree. The problem is you have Joe Paterno and the fact that the PSU fan-base travels better than Iowa's.

As usual it comes down to $$$$$$$$$.

I understand the voting in terms of, if Team A has two loses and Team B has three loses, Team A is better.

I just have a hard time believing that Penn State and Iowa are "Top 10 teams". Tell me what in the game against Penn State made you think of them as a top 10 team.

Penn State has looked like a top 10 team at times and not so much other times. Clark had a pretty poor game against OSU but looked Heisman worthy in others. PSU has solid D, decent running game, but those two things aren't good enough to elevate Clark when he's not on.

I don't know if they're top 10 worthy but I don't know who you could soundly justify placing ahead of them at this point.

I get that. It's hard to put a 3 loss team above of a 2 loss team. But when I watch a game, regardless of records, I'm not just nearly as impressed with Penn State as I am with many other teams that might have 3-4 losses.

I think it will be an interesting bowl season for the Big 10. It can go one of two ways, either they get two in the BCS, and the entire conference will be playing above where they should because of two in the BCS. If they only get one in the BCS, it balances out the rest of the bowls and the Big 10 could have a decent showing.
