Are we heading toward 7V7 Flag football. With the studies about the brain coming out the players who have had the worst head injuries are the lineman. Lineman have to go helmet to helmet each play and can't really avoid the contact. The league has already changed the rules to help other positions but the only way to really protect linemen is to eliminate them altogether or impose a weightlimit (to protect the rest of them ie. their knees) and remove the helmets to encourage avoiding the shots to the head.

I just want to say I want old school clothesline style football but with the way Goodell sees things and the way the game has changed in the previous 20 years if it keeps evolving in the same way were gonna be watching 7V7 flag football. What does everyone else think.

Probably, if they are truly concerned about head injuries, that's the only thing they could really do for the lineman. I don't see how a weight limit would work.

Linemen are not colliding at full speed and there already are rules that protect them from being blindsided or hit from behind.

If you want to get rid of helmet to helmet hits get rid of the helmets and then you will see proper tackling techniques being used.

Joe Pa has suggested getting rid of face masks.

Goodell proposed getting rid of the three point stance also. What will happen is if they try and change the game to much someone will start another league and use the current rules and then the NFL will cease to exist. NCAA can't change their game to much because Football pays for every other sport. There will be no more negative revenue sports without college football. So NFL can change it all they want college will most likely stay the same and those athletes will just go to another league.

just read an article in SI. It said that its really not the big hits and concussions that are causing the damage to the brain it may be the small hits happening every play affecting the players. In the players they studied the linemen who were getting hit with 80gs of force alot were doing worse then the players who got the big concussions from hits that measured up to 200plus of g force.

obviously additional studies are needed.... but what is important is that the nature of the game has changed (i.e. the equipment, the speed, power size of the player, the technique) such that concussions are happening at an alarming rate. Nobody needs to hit anyone in the head....and by requiring that players lower the target zone reinforces the idea that head shots are not going to be tolerated. Nobody is going to convince me that some of the shots being delivered are not intentionally directed at a players head with the idea of taking the guy out.

I remember a pretty good game where that wasn't the prime directive. I see no problem with the NFL reigning in headhunters.

I believe all games in the future will be decided on Madden, With an elected player going head to head with the other team

The most logical solution is to continue the advancement in safety of the helmet itself and to reduce unnecessary personal foul contact.

probly should just make the field a little bigger/wider and this would alleviate some of the problems
