Anyone have one, or plan on getting one?The hottest gaming accessory of the 2010 holiday season, Microsoft Kinect, is now available across the globe. Microsoft’s new motion-based video game controller for Xbox 360 is set to take the world by storm. Analysts almost unanimously expect it to be one of the best-selling accessories this holiday season, and Microsoft recently raised its holiday sales projections from 3 million to 5 million units. Here’s what you need to know: if you have an Xbox 360, you need Kinect. If you need Kinect, you also need to get moving because purchasing one will be increasingly difficult as we approach the holidays.

NY Times gives it a great review, saying
I would love to get one. Sounds/looks awesome (although there will probably be some kinks to start).
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/04/technology/personaltech/04pogue.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=technology"The Kinect’s astonishing technology creates a completely new activity that’s social, age-spanning and even athletic. Microsoft owes a huge debt to the Nintendo Wii, yes, but it also deserves huge credit for catapulting the motion-tracking concept into a mind-boggling new dimension. Just this once, the gods have lifted the Curse of the Microsoft Hardware."

The games out at launch for it aren't amazing (Apparently Kinectimals is a decent game even if you aren't six. Which by the way, if you have a young girl get her that game. She'll love you.) But it's worth it just for the remote control functions and such.
There will be some great stuff coming out for it.
I'll have one relatively soon.

Question:
Does Kinect or PS Move make the Wii obsolete? I don't see the purpose of owning one now.

I think the Move would if it had the same games. The Kinect is something completly different, again it doesn't have the games yet either. Those two plumbers and their friends are Nintendos trump card.

Is this going to be Microsoft's iPod? Apple didn't invent the mp3 player, they just took it to the next level and basically perfected it. Microsoft didn't invent this motion tracking technology, but it sounds like they may have taken it to next next level and nearly improved it.
Also, is this the actual release of Project Natal, the motion tracking gaming system that was unveiled by Microsoft a while back?

Yeah, I'd definitely wait at least a year before getting this even if I wanted it. Let other people pay the higher prices and deal with the inevitable bugs.

Dance Central has been getting pretty solid reviews and looks like it may be another hit from Harmonix (their previous ones being the first Guitar Hero and then the Rock Band series).

Anyone who gets this should not get Fighters Uncaged though. For the love of God don't buy it. I quote from the Joystiq review
One time, I was pushing a TV around so I could watch He-Man while I ate my Cap'n Crunch in the dining room. I was four years old. I accidentally pushed the TV over, bringing it smashing down on my finger. I had to get eight stitches and I eventually lost the fingernail.
I mention this only so you can fully appreciate the gravity of me saying that the half-hour I spent with Fighters Uncaged was the very worst TV-related thing that has ever happened to me. It's ugly, the fighting moves only work half of the time (except for ones like the straight right leg kick, which work none of the time). The training goes on forever before you get to the first round of actual fighting, which is against ... your trainer. It's terrible. I would erase Kinect from the fabric of time if it meant Fighters Uncaged would similarly be lost to the ether.
I'm not giving it a score because I think scoring a game after a half hour sets a bad precedent, and I'd rather eat a rain-soaked box of poison buttholes than ever play Fighters Uncaged again.

IGN gave Kinect a 7.5
Move is pretty good, it's definitely made our Wii obsolete.
I may look into the Kinect, but it's a little too gimmicky for my tastes. I still prefer some kind of controller in my hand, even if it is a big dildo with a glowing ball.

Kinect will get better with time. They can use the regular 360 controller in addition to Kinect. So I imagine we'll get some sweet uses out of it before too long. Launches are always pretty weak when it comes to the games.
