Kyle Singler - Duke senior
Jacob Pullen - Kansas State senior
Jimmer Fredette - BYU senior
JaJuan Johnson - Purdue senior
Harrison Barnes - North Carolina FRESHMAN

Barnes is the first freshman to make the preseason All American team since it started in 1986.

Can't believe voters couldn't find a player to vote for instead of Harrison Barnes.
This was Robbie Hummel's spot I suppose, still find it strange Barnes was voted in here.

I think recent history has shown you can judge HS players to see how well they will translate.

Wall, Cousins, Oden, Melo, Durant, etc.

If not for the incident, LaceDarius Dunn would have Barnes' spot. There's no way Hummel was a first team All-American, not even close.

There are various reasons why Barnes was voted into this -- circumstances involving the players mentioned above, early entrees (chiefly Butler's Gordon Hayward) -- all of which involve high impact players simply being less populated throughout college basketball than a year ago.

But it's certainly impressive, nonetheless. Had Kyrie Irving been listed here, I'd be just as excited and optimistic as Carolina fans probably are, and rightly so. Hopefully for Tar Heel Country, Barnes turns out to be as good as advertised -- because I just don't see UNC as a top ten prospect. At least not right now. Roy has a huge task at hand.

Pretty weak group.Barnes is a top 5 pick and Singler is a late first rounder, but those other guys will have to wait until the 2nd round(Johhnson) or go undrafted (Pullen and Fredette.),I think duke's Nolan Smith and Kyrie Irving both better than Pullen and Fredette.

JaJuan Johnson on the team is also a joke IMO.

How does a guy like Trey Thompkins (better numbers his entire career and a higher potential upside) not get consideration? Agreed with Prescott, a VERY weak group.

Then again, last year's preseason AA's saw 0 end up on the postseason AA list, if that says anything.

Happens more often than not if I'm not mistaken. Except for a few names like Hansbrough and Griffen recently.

After Durant, Beasley, Rose, Wall, Evans and others pretty much dominated the sport the last 5 years, they decided it would be a good idea to add some Freshman to the list. I mean honestly, John Wall was not even voted first team preseason All-SEC and he was maybe the most hyped Freshman in a while. I guess we will see. However, if I had to make my list and NOT include Freshman, it would be fairly straight-forward.

G Jacob Pullen, Kansas State
G LaceDarius Dunn, Baylor
G Nolan Smith, Duke
F Trey Thompkins, Georgia
F Kyle Singler, Duke

I know others might disagree and although Fredette is a very good player who had some monster games year, he isn't as good as some other players in the past. Guys like Luke Babbitt, Gordon Hayward, Courtney Lee, Rodney Stuckey, Eric Maynor and Jordan Crawford were all small school players who are as good or better than Fredette and didn't sniff preseason First Team All-American status. Maybe that is just a reflection on how weak (or unknown) next year's NCAA basketball landscape will be.

To this day, I have no idea why preseason this or that is ever done. Nationally and conference wise makes no sense. Nobody has earned anything at this point, especially the frosh. Its really pretty stupid IMO. All that matters is at seasons end. Those are the true award winners.

No way a freshman should ever be on this list. They just wanted to add another guy from Duke/North Carolina to over hype them more than they already are.

Am I the only one without issue that a freshman is on the team? I probably (ok I absolutely wouldnt) have Barnes on it...but I cant fault voters after the recent dominance of freshman.

Hell, after the Oden/Durant class I would have had Beasley, Rose and Wall as first team AA going into the season. Maybe even Tyreke Evans.

I really don't have a problem with it being Barnes, seeing how hyped he has been.

And I wouldn't have had an issue with him being on the team either.

Typical homering by a member of the resident UNC crew. LOL. You wouldn't have issue with Barnes being this high, would you, Panama Red.

Barnes should be replaced by Nolan Smith.

I wouldn't have an issue with that either. I was actually really surprised to NOT see Nolan on there.

I was being wry, wildcats;) I called you a homer, then said UNC's player should be replaced with someone from Duke. :D

As I said above, I really have no problem with it. Barnes is extremely talented and extremely hyped. And it's just a pre-season list after all.

I know I know.

And honestly, I don't know how Nolan isn't mentioned on this team. I have a feeling he will be there come April though.

I agree with you. Nolan's going to have a terrifyingly good year. I like this new passive response you. Is it possible you're seeing what Michael K and True Blue is all about? Guys like hoops and rowdy (he's probably dead from speed by now) should consider following:D

In all seriousness, god I can't wait for things to get underway. It's been a great off-season (for me obviously), but I'm ready for ACC play and specifically Duke-Carolina. Might have to bring out 82-50 tonight.
