1. N.Y. Jets 5-1 (3)...Has to be. Only 5-1 team. The win in Denver was the classic case of a good team finding a way to win.
2. Pittsburgh 4-1 (4)...Encouraging start but a rough stretch ahead, including three straight road games.
3. New England 4-1 (5)
4. Baltimore 4-2 (2)
5. Indianapolis 4-2 (6)...Might be a little high because they're making a lot of mistakes in other areas -- defense, special teams -- but we've seen Manning carry them to the playoffs before.

6. Tennessee 4-2 (8)...Good team that might have a tough time making the playoffs due to the depth of teams in the AFC.
7. N.Y. Giants 4-2 (13)
8. New Orleans 4-2 (9)
9. Philadelphia 4-2 (15)
10. Atlanta 4-2 (1)
11. Houston 4-2 (14)

12. Kansas City 3-2 (12)
13. Chicago 4-2 (7)
14. Washington 3-3 (10)
15. Miami 3-2 (17)
16. Arizona 3-2 (16)
17. Minnesota 2-3 (19)
18. Green Bay 3-3 (11)

19. Dallas 1-4 (18)
20. Jacksonville 3-3 (20)
21. Denver 2-4 (22)
22. Tampa Bay 3-2 (21)
23. Seattle 3-2 (27)
24. St. Louis 3-3 (26)
25. Cincinnati 2-3 (25)
26. Oakland 2-4 (23)
27. San Diego 2-4 (24)

28. Cleveland 1-5 (28)
29. Detroit 1-5 (29)
30. San Francisco 1-5 (30)
31. Carolina 0-5 (31)
32. Buffalo 0-5 (32)

Browns have been competitive but the Jags have two more wins, including one over Indianapolis.

Detroit has been in a lot of games, like Cleveland, but with so many teams close I have to reward wins more than close losses.

There is such an entanglement when you break it down.

Detroit crushed St. Louis, but St. Louis has beaten San Diego, Seattle and Washington.

Seattle beat Chicago but lost to St. Louis and also Denver.

Denver lost to Jacksonville but beat Tennessee.

San Francisco beat the Raiders but it's their only win, where as Oakland has defeated San Diego and also St. Louis.

Arizona got crushed by San Diego and Atlanta but they did beat New Orleans.

Looks like a lot of parity....You could switch around just about anyone in the top 5. No prohibited favorite.

I would still have Baltimore ahead of New England. Baltimore could have very easily won that game and were on the road.

If the game was played on a neutral field, I think Baltimore wins. I know it goes against the norm, but it's how I would personally look at it.

I would agree with that. Also don't know if they are better than San Francisco.

Baltimore and New England was a war in which New England won on their home field by 3 with 2 minutes left in overtime. As a Raven's fan I will take that loss. Losing to a good team at their stadium by 3 in OT isn't anything to be ashamed of. I just hope the Ravens see them again in the post season.

The AFC playoffs are going to be a lot of fun to watch this year. Talk about running a gauntlet to get to the Super Bowl.

The Jets are #1 for now, but as much as it pains me to say it, Pittsburgh looks like the best team in the league. Their defense carried them without Roethlisberger and now that he is back, they are very good on both sides of the ball. Plus they have a running game this year if they need to win that way
