are you counting spring training as well? because they only need 173 games to sweep their way through the regular and postseason to become world series champions - which we all know they will be with watson

He must be able to do a really good sell job on himself. One of the ESPN baseball guys said Wedge was interviewed for the Cubs job and he did very well.

Wonder if the Mariners GM realizes that Wedge isn't a yes guy and will want a say in personnel.... that's pretty much why the guy fired Wakamatsu

I liked Wedge in Cleveland. I thought he did a nice job and he won quite a few games. He also had the Indians in a pretty good pennant race and generally competed fairly well. I guess the relevant question would be, what has happened since he left? i think this is an easy one to answer. Look for Seattle to become a competitor for a pennant in a fairly short time. Don't look for the Indians to match that.

You are talking about the sames Eric Wedge who has no idea what small ball is and the same Eric Wedge that ran Brandon Phillips out of town so he could play guys like John McDonald.

You forgot "the same Eric Wedge that shows no emotion at all."

With that being said, Manager is the most overrated out of all professional sports. In baseball the general manager is way more important than the manager. If Seattle succeeds it will be because of their GM not their manager. Now that Charlie Manuel is a World Series winner, everyone talks about how the Tribe should have never gotten rid of him. I think many managers would have won with that roster. Same goes for Joe Torre's years with the Yankees.

Most managers show little to no emotion. It is baseball, not football. Totally different mentality. In baseball it is all about not showing guys up. Torre is one of the guys that show little to no emotion at all. He's done pretty well for himself.

See the rest of my post about the GM being more important.

Joe Torre would at least fight for his players and talk the to umps. I felt like Wedge would never get fired up with an ump.
