Well, is it about time for the Rider chatters to migrate over to the basketball thread?

Locals might be done, but I go to playoff games through the finals, and usually all 6 Finals.

I too go all all 6 championship games, but I'll be on here as soon as the Riders are ousted.

High School teachers were given a presentation of the plans for the new building this morning. One of the highlights is a new gym. We will be keeping the old gym. The state requires that a new building has a gym. We are looking at regulation floor size with seating of 1300 to 1500. Possibilities of seat backs for Reserved seating and end zone student sections.

Trivia question: what is the current seating capacity of the Knight gym? (It's posted above the SE doors.)

Around 900. Maybe we could get some ideas about the design for the center of the floor or even if people would like to have a wall painted like at Mansfield. Sounds like a job for RR1 on his blog to get some input and design ideas. The choices for a new gym were: Phys Ed use only for new gym and refurbish the old gym (most costly and would add very few seats if any), new gym same seating capacity (1,000) as old with regulation floor, or reg. floor and more seating capacity with the idea that it would be our competition gym.

Flash: you are a little short with your 900 guess (no pun intended! ;-o ). I am looking for the exact number. The plans showed to us today said 1300 - 1500 seating.

Yah, that's the last choice with more seating. I think they were going to have cushioned seating for the BOE. LOL

Wrong, funny boy! That's the kind of answer I would get in my classroom! :-)

Come on now, what does the sign say? 900 and what?

I like the thought of a new gym though, we need more seating in that gym just hope we don't lose that home court advantage with the crowd right on top of you....

WOW, that would give us 4 gyms, not including the Multi-Purpose Facility.

I think the current gym needs to be named after Bob Knight, since he has donated the money to update it.

The Multi-Purpose Facitility needs to be named after Coach Steve Smith...Coach Smith Field House.

haha and while we're at it Smucker Field, when Smucker's donates the money for field turf.

Now, ya know O-villeQB, the current gym IS named for Coach Knight. Coach Sly said that he WOULD miss that tight old gym for home court advantage. He specifically cited that game he played in against nationally ranked Firestone. The opponents told him after the game that our gym and crowd psyched them out.

Answer to trivia: 968

Orrville QB nice roster of returning players but who will be on Varsity vs. JV. They can't all play varsity? Of course the SR.'s will play and dress varsity. Any updates??

1300-1500...wow that will really open things up. Nice to hear.

Here's a blog I did about a "smitty" fieldhouse. It was a concept drawing made by another blogger.

I feel for you Orrville fans not wanting to change away from your traditional gym with the tight atmosphere it creates. We are running into a similar problem if/when we pass a levy to allow building the new school with the cookie-cutter gymnasiums. :(

Pitman, your gym is an advantage for the players but a terrible gym to watch a game in....To many blind spots....grab a couple tubes of caulking, fill her up with water to make a pool, then build a new gym....

Heard there are roughly 50 kids at the middle school out for basketball this year.....enough for an A and a B team at the 7th and 8th grade level.

Numbers are WAY up at all levels. Hearing good things from the parent meeting the other night too.

most notably....
1. no practice on holidays....apparently this is different than in the past
2. no practice past 5:30....coach wants kids home in the evening to work on their studies

Big numbers are a good problem......

I'd love to see both of us get a cookie cutter gymnasium, then we could have a full size floor and yours wouldn't have to be in a swimming pool:) so you could actually see the whole floor.
