I've watched about 2/3 of the episode so far. Couldn't make it through it last night. Very very painful to watch. Another step backwards for the show. I was happy when I heard Jan might be returning, but then remembered that they had ruined her character and had made her completely off the reservation (busting out into song in an office) and the Andy storyline wasn't all that funny either.

There were a few funny moments though Michael talking with the office about his cold sore (right after the cold open where the guy inexplicably hits a bees nest with a ball bat) and then when Dwight comes down stairs when Michael is talking with Carol and says "somebody died upstairs didn't they" Reminded me of when Dwight and Michael are condo shopping all the way back in season 2

I thought this episode was much better than the last 2 weeks. This season has been a disappointment overall so far though.

My wife and I were talking last night about how bad the last couple seasons have been. We both thought this scene was pretty funny though last night.

I just hope they end it after this year....I hate that one of my favorite shows has jumped the shark this bad. Just curious, but do they still have all the same writers? I have never seen a show it a wall like this.

I actually thought it was the best show of the season...although that is faint praise. Last week's ep was so bad that it couldn't be worse than that. But there were some positives IMO:

I like Amy Ryan and thought both conversations with her character and Michael (or at least Michael leaving a message) were pretty good.

I thought Michael's interaction with Carol (his wife in real life) was pretty good.

The negatives:

All of the stuff with Pam's Mom, it is ridiculous that Pam and Jim even talk to him after how awful he was to her, and was more awful in this episode.

Andy-Erin. No one cares! Too forced, and Ed Helms isn't talented enough to carry a scene, let alone most of an episode. Andy Bernard is just a terrible character.

They've ruined Andy too. He was great when he was the overbearing suck-up/Dwight's nemesis for Michael's attention. Now all of his scenes are either him being really awkward around women or yelling and getting angry

The shark began lurking when the wedding/baby came to fruition....The high water mark of this show was Jim and Pams wedding, everything after that is complete junk....And the folks at NBC will get this when they see the DVD season sales plummett for the past couple of seasons. Firing Chief Jeff Zucker should have happened years back....

This episode was awful. I know everyone has been ripping The Office for awhile now saying all the new episodes are crap; and while I agree, they aren't nearly as bad as everyone would like you to believe they are. They're just not "as good." But this episode was just baaaaad. I think there was at least 4x where I was left wondering, "WTF?!"

And as far as the comment about Andy Bernard being a terribly character... this is preposterous! Andy Bernard is great!!! (when used right).

Andy was great in season 3 (small doses), ok in 4 and 5, and horrible in 6 and this season...just dvr'ed this week's episode since we won't be home, apparently more Andy, this time he's trying to start a band - enough with song and dance stuff already.

Yea, not sure why they're moving away from using the office setting as part of the comedy.

I love the office, but I'm thinking they are running out of things to say/do in the office. The perfect ending spot would have been somewhere in the middle of season 4.

IMO the show should have ended with this moment:

The way to end the show would be for a cell phone to go off at a time when the whole office is together with michael talking to the camera....when a cell phone interupts michael talking to the camera, one camera turns to the cameraman who's cellphone went off, who turn out to be series show creator Ricky Gervais, who quickly tells his other camerman that the documentary has just been canceled due to budget problems with the production company, and that they are wrapping up....The camerman start to leave the office, michael follows and attempts to plead for them to stay, and then the screen goes black when a cameraman turns off his camera.....

Theres my little Hollywood writer moment....

IMO, this sealed the fate of the show..it was the dynamic that held the show together (that, and Jim's pranks on Dwight) :D

Sounds like the Sopranos finale meets The Office.

One of the biggest mistakes they have made was making Jim care about his career. Now he is serious (i.e. not funny) and he never pranks Dwight anymore. Pam really has never been all that funny, but they have replaced Jim's cameratime with Dwight with his interactions with Pam and it isn't working. Painful to watch
