Really good read. Great insight to a world that few of us understand.

Very interesting, but I'm not surprised at all. (and I don't think anyone else really is either.)

I think that this will finally get the NFL to begin cracking down on this sort of thing. As we learned with the Reggie Bush incident, the NCAA has no means to punish the agents who do this, and since this stuff usually comes out after a student has left school there's no way for them to punish the offender either. So the NCAA is left with punishing the programs and the players who come later.
On a side note, they were saying on the radio earlier that the NCAA has a five year statute of limitations on this sort of thing so nothing will likely come of this from an NCAA standpoint since this mostly happened in 2005.

Why would the NFL care if college athletes are being paid? I know morally they should, but is there really any reason to think that things will change all of a sudden.

Not revealing at all. If you follow sports, you knew this went on. Only semi-surprising thing is this guy "named - names" usually these kinda stories refer to sombody like "...a well known WR from Ohio State currently playing in the NFL"...etc etc. Gotta give him props for that. But he will definitely be getting his ass kicked in some bar in the near future.

Agents who pay the players and give them benefits, they should be treated just like players, I think they should get punished like Nick Saban or Bob Stoops said by losing their license for a year.

Just read it and it's really not that revealing. Who didn't know that stuff goes on?

The guy did lose his license. He's not an agent anymore and that's why he's not afraid to come out and name names.

Good read, not surprising, just interesting that he actually named names, as Tiernan said.

In November 2005, Steve and I flew to Ohio State to talk to receiver Santonio Holmes. We met him outside the football building, and he said, "Listen, I want to save you the time. We don't need to meet. I've been taking money from [an agent] the last couple years, and he's been taking care of my family too."
ouch. At least it goes on everywhere though...

Nothing will happen to OSU since its after the 4 year window, unless it is thought that OSU knew about it and tried to cover it up.

Awesome stuff. Those guys were raking in the cash. Imagine some of the "crappy" players he was dishing out hundreds a month to that signed with someone else. How many agents were all paying these guys. Then think of how many agents were paying the top guys thousands a month. Sheesh.

He had a good point though..
The NCAA makes a TON of cash off these kids.

These were two of the more interesting points I took away from the article.
FYI, he's going to be on Mike and Mike at 9:15. Should be interesting.

I think the only way to deter this from happening is to make it a crime with mandatory prison time.

exaclty how i felt. i've always heard that kiper uses his "influence" on draft status to inflate guys into earlier rounds. now it would seem that he does it for kickbacks from the players' agents.
i was also shocked at the names of players that wouldn't take money. i'd have thought stubblefield, johnson, etc. would have definitely taken the money. kudos to them for not getting roped in.

I heard somewhere that Jimmy Clausen was a client of Gary Wichard. Now I think I understand why Kiper was getting so emotional during the draft when Clausen was dropping like a rock. I remember wondering why Kiper was taking it so personally

kiper defended himself very well on mike and mike this morning breaking down players that this guy had signed and where he ranked them, not much evidence there...
