I haven't watched this yet, but it's on my "To Do" List. Anyone been watching? I was trying to think how many OSU alumni will make the top 20 (PS, I know this is a college football forum, and the icons expand beyond football, but seemed like a logical resting place). My two cents:

DEFINITELY IN TOP 20

Jesse Owens
Archie Griffin
Jack Nicklaus
Woody Hayes

MAYBE?

John Havlicek
Eddie George
Bobby Knight (obviously more for his role at Indiana)
Howard "Hopalong" Cassidy

LONG SHOTS?

Orlando Pace
Jimmy Jackson
Evan Turner
Troy Smith

I am sure I am missing some, as I did this quick off the top of my head .... thoughts?

Nicklaus is #18, Cassidy was somewhere in the high 30s. Spielman was #47 too.

I was pissed that the list had Bronko Nagurski at #21. Way too low.

Owens should be #1...and if he isn't the list is retarded and should never be spoke of again.

Bobby Knight has referred to Jerry Lucas as the greatest Big 10 basketball he has ever seen. I hope Lucas made the list.

Totally forgot about it, no idea how I did. Who do you think are the top 5? Owens? Magic Johnson? Lucas? Hayes? Schembechler? Archie?

Gerald Ford has he been mentioned yet? I would think he would be up there, I realize he was scUM but he was a President or something like that.

Not sure how many Buckeyes will make top 5, Owens for sure. As for Hayes and Griffin not sure since I'm sure they will spread it out some between schools.

I would say Owens, Hayes, Griffin and Lucas will be the remaining Buckeyes. Not sure if Katie Smith is an all time leading scorer or anything but maybe her but again, not sure where she ranks in the girls basketball. Also forgot Fred Taylor but I doubt he would make it. There are a few I dont agree with already chosen, Calbert Cheney at #38 I think he was. I wouldn't put him in my top 75.

Pretty sure Katie Smith is the league's all-time leading scorer. Any list of icons without her is a sham. IMO the list is already a sham because it includes Penn St. athletes who never played in the Big Ten. (Curt Warner)

Calbert Cheney!?!? You're right Norwalk, that just made the entire list illigit.

The list also ONLY takes into account accomplishments in college. I wonder if they will only have students also and no coaches.

Good point ... if post-college accomplishments were included, you would have to put Michael Phelps high on this list.

Not an icon, but if you were talking about best players, I think besides every other obvious choice, I think Turner should be in there. It's not too often the Big 10 produces a national player of the year.

The only big 10 players to win it since it's inception in 1969 are:

Scott May
Cheaney
Turner

He was a Big 10 National POY. Can't leave him off this list.

I think that Red Grange is the only other person that could have a legitimate claim to the #1 spot.

He was the UPI POY in 1992, not the more recognized Naismath POY. Christian Laettner won it that year, along with pretty much every other POY award not including UPI.

JJ was also a 2 time Big Ten player of the year and consensus all american.
