Play was actually called dead in mid air, but the hold was called before he hurdled.

Play was not called dead in mid air! Look at the ref once he crosses the end zone where the 2nd set of struthers players run into each other... He signals TD!!! If play was blown dead he doesn't signal TD!!! Watch the video do you see a hold??? Nope!!! Holding is a ten yard penalty.. This was a 15yard unsportsmanlike conduct.... It was called back for that, but it didn't matter... 2 plays later the QB throws for a TD!!!

I was very suprised to see that this is illegal, kid made a great play and imho it should've been a td. i'm glad justice was on his side and he got in the next play.

It's a safety issue, 15 yard foul. You are probably not the only one who did not know this was a foul, very few fans have an in depth knowledge of the game.

I've seen kids hurdling at our football games before and no flags have ever been thrown for a penalty. If it is supposed to be "illegal", then apparently the officials don't know about it.

I would love to know what school has these great players. I see 40+ games a year and have never seen this happen in person.

From what I heard, you can hurdle a guy that is diving for a tackle or on the ground. If the defender has 2 feet on the ground it's illegal? Not sure where I heard this, so it could be a dream. :)

SECTION22 HURDLING
Hurdling is an attempt by a player to jump (hurdle) with one or both feet or
knees foremost over an opponent who is contacting the ground with no part of
his body except one or both feet.

In this game, Marky stripped the ball and took it 80 yards for the first score of the night. He also threw for 3 more TD's. This kid is only a Jr. He is the real deal. The only problem is he will try and out do himself now. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't try to hurdle someone in basketball and dunk it. He feels Basketball is his sport too.

A safety issue, my ass! This is truly a laughable rule. :D

A guy laying out for a dive is 10 times more likely to be injured than a guy in a vertical stance. There is not as much padding in the lower rib cage area, should they eliminate tackles at the waist level as well?

It's not a safety issue for the runner, rather the person potentially taking a cleated shoe under the face mask.

safety your ass....when a kid is in midair with nothing based and anoth hits him at the feet/knees....potentially landing right on his dome....very dangerous, spinal injuries easily occur in an instance like this...

IF the rule allows a runner to dive over a tackler who is at knee height (diving towards your knees) but does not allow a hurdle over a standing tackler then it is a good rule. I don't someone to get a knee injury from a low tackle.

You better count again 4 of Struthers players ran into each other, another dove on the ground, others gave up on the play from backside bc they knew they couldn't catch him.... The eye in the sky does not lie... It has proven everything you had to say about this play wrong...

. great athletic move by that young man too bad some politically correct group who are probably more apt at playing chess or golf made this rule up . This is a great sport and it is a somewhat dangerous sport . It is a violent sport and we love it as players and fans , But you have an elite group of thinking people who think too much making rules of this nature . It could have cost Liverpool this game and that too me would have been an injustice.
