Maybe the writers will turn it around for Carell's last year. No way it could possibly be worse than last year.

BTW you can see the cold opening tonight at nbc.com. I thought it was pretty lame, what's up with all of the dancing and physical 'humor'? It is more self-indulgent than the old clever and subtle days.

Does she really need to "impress" him with an office prank. I'm sure there are other ways to impress him.

I just started watching this series from the beginning...almost through Season 3. Still funny up to that point. How many seasons have their been and what point did it start sucking?

I believe tonight starts season 7...
Most people will tell you it sucks around season 6. Once Jim/Pam get married, the show loses some of it's addiction.

Season 4 was 'different' due to the writer's strike. Just seemed a bit disjointed. Plus after Jim and Pam got together at the end of season 3 that's a huge plotpoint that is notably absent. Season 5 had its moments and the show tried to get the Michael/Holly relationship to take Jim/Pam's place with mixed results. Season 6 (last year) was terrible. Too many major things going on without development (it took 3 seasons for Jim and Pam to date - now it takes just a few episodes for crazy stuff to happen), the Andy-Erin angle is beyond boring.

I used to buy every single season on DVD and I even bought seasons 4 & 5 even though they weren't strong seasons. I will not buy season 6. Last year was bad

This is why shows shouldn't have 20+ episodes every season. 99% of them can't handle it, and they all lose their luster after 3-4 seasons. Seinfeld was the only show that could pull off 20+ episodes per season in my opinion.

In all honesty the show should have probably ended somewhere around season 4. They should have bumped the Jim and Pam wedding up and had a really short season 4. However, they don't care about when it is ideal. Everybody was getting paid and it was popular so they just keep making them. I watch them and always will, but they should have pulled a Seinfeld and went out on top.

I understand why people didn't like it, but I didn't necessarily have a problem with it. I was happier that they went that route than a cheesy Jerry and Elaine hook-up (which is what I think most people wanted).
Why don't we ask Jerry's agent if he went out on top. He had a Godfather type offer from NBC to keep it going and he turned it down

Last year Larry David made 50 million off Seinfeld syndications alone. In 1998 he made 250 million off Seinfeld syndications. I would say they went out on top.

I guess it was as close to closure besides killing everyone off that a show has ever gotten. Definitely didn't expect it, just didn't care for it. It is still an amazing run for the show. As it relates to The Office, guess you never really know when a show is going to run out of steam until it does. Seinfeld hadn't, I don't know how it could've ever gotten better and I completely agree that they went out on top.

Season 3 is awesome. By far the best IMO. But as you will soon see, the writers seem to think the only storyline they can write is an awkward love triangle
Maybe The Office has run out of steam? Seems like its set up for an endless number of stories (again, I'm only into the third season at the moment), but I did already notice that some of those arcs move very quickly (though, maybe its the fact that I've watched so many shows in a relatively short time period).

That, and Michael went from being a harmless, self-centered buffoon who usually only hurt himself and either got his comeuppance or otherwise rose to the occasion (which made him somewhat sympathetic), into a harmful, self-centered buffoon who hurt other people and often never suffered or learned from his actions (which made him somewhat sociopathic). There's a fine line where awkward turns into stomach-churning.

Yeah I'd agree with that. The show has defintely become more slapstick and what's worse is that pretty much all of the characters have changed almost entirely

yeah, I always thought that the Jim/Dwight war was some of the best jokes....that has gone to shit in the last couple of years.

One of the worst decisions in the history of the show was when they decided to make Jim care. After he got promoted he stopped messing with Dwight and that was always the best part of the show. Notice I didn't say Michael trying to be the most awkward guy in the room was the funniest part of the showYeah I'd agree with that. Hmm...up to the first break, it feels a little more like the old seasons. Jim and Dwight pranks look to be picking back up.
