I have a dentist appointment in just over an hour...and I am nervous.

I don't have very good experience with dentists...growing up getting fillings, teeth pulled for braces, and two years of braces. When I had my teeth pulled they gave me 13 shots of novacain that didn't do a thing, still felt every bit of it. Worst pain I can remember.

Now...it has been at least 10 years since I have been to the dentist...mostly due to no dental insurance...and no money to pay for it out of pocket. I know for sure that I will have some cavities to fill and my wisdom teeth will have to be pulled...or whats left of them.

Not looking forward to this....


(I know...I just need to man up...but saying that doesn't get rid of the nerves)

It could help to get put under general anesthesia for the wisdom teeth. Also, you could request nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for other procedures. The stuff works wonders for a lot of people.

Waiting for Aspen Dental to open up, I hear they will gas me for a cleaning. I'm deathly afraid of the dentist.

I was a little afraid having not gone in over a year, but I took pretty good care of my mouth and came out without any cavaties or anything. Hope it all goes good for ya

If you are worried about getting wisdom teeth pulled, you want to have them taken care of by an oral surgeon who can give you general anesthesia. You'll need a referral from your general dentist, so see them first.If you are very apprehensive even for relatively minor stuff, a dentist can prescribe a mild sedative (such as Valium) or use nitrous oxide. There is no substitute for a caring dentist, so if going to the dentist is consistently a painful experience, you ought to try someone else. Feel free to PM me if you need some specific advice.

Regullar checkups and cleanings are cheap 'insurance' against costly and more difficult treatments. Be sure to get your regular checkups even if you don't have insurance.

I've never met a dentist who didn't suggest I needed something else done.

It's always left me feeling like they use scare tactics to get into my wallet.

So the first trip wasn't bad...but I do need a lot of work done...

-Bunch of fillings (not sure how many but split between two appointments)
-Root Canal plus crown
-Wisdom Teeth out
-Cleaning

Fun stuff....

And $3,600 later....

However, somehow (not sure how), my insurance covers all but $76...WHOOT!

The madness begins tomorrow!

Just went to the dentist without insurance.

Cleaning/x-rays ran about $130.

They now want me to get a very small (early stages) cavity filled for $200. smh.

When i was in college (and reeeeeeally poor) my dentist tried to talk me into having all of my amalgum fillings replaced with gold. I think I have a cavity in every single tooth and it was $600 per tooth. I asked him who the hell was going to pay for that and found a new dentist. My current dentist never charges more than my insurance pays. I like him much better. :)
