Where would you rank Pryor in a list of OSU QBs since, say, the John Cooper era began? Mine would probably look like this (although I am probably forgetting someone):

1. Troy Smith
2. Joe Germaine
3. Terrell Pryor
4. Bobby Hoying
5. Craig Krenzel
6. Todd Boeckman
7. Kirk Herbstreit
8. Stan Jackson
9. Kent Graham
10. Steve Bellisari

Feel free to include QBs before the Cooper era (I limited it to that era until now, only because my knowledge of OSU QBs before that point is admittedly shaky ...)

I only have vague memories of Frey, Herbstreit & Graham, so didn't include them.
Right now I have Pryor at #4, but if he continues to progress as he has been, I think he'll be a clear #1 by the time he leaves OSU.

how can bellisari be in the top 10? from what i remember (although i was only 9-12 when he played) he was horrible and constantly was screwing up

Because only the QB's that the poster remembered watching were ranked. He was 8 on my list, as I only ranked the 8 QB's I watched enough to rank.

Yeah Bellisari was flat out awful. The guy got the offense booed on SEVERAL occasions when they ran in from the sideline lol.

Herbie was pretty bad too and has referred to himself as the worst ever osu qb.

It's too early.

Way too early especially since most of us never watched Greene, Kern or Schlichter.

Going by the QB's I remember (I didn't really start paying attention to Ohio State football until I was about 12-13 yrs old. which would've been 1994-95). Here is my list:

1. Troy Smith: Smith is the only QB at Ohio State (and I believe the only Big 10 QB) to ever win the Heisman. He was 3-0 vs. TSUN and lead OSU to a Fiesta Bowl victory over ND and to the 2006 NC game. He was great (until the NC game).

2. Joe Germaine: Everyone remembers Germaine for that comeback drive in the 1997 Rose Bowl over Arizona St. and Jake Plummer. Germaine had a stellar season in 1998 and lead OSU to a BCS victory in the inaugural season of the BCS.

3. Craig Krenzel: I know I may catch some flack for this, but I am a huge, HUGE Krenzel fan. He may have not had the strongest arm, but he has to be the smartest QB Ohio State has ever had. He was CLUTCH and delivered the 1st NC in over 34 years. All the guy did is win. I believe he was something like 26-4 as a starter with a 2-1 record vs. TSUN and 2 BCS victories under his belt. I believe had he had a running game in the 2003 season, OSU would have went unbeaten and won a 2nd consecutive national title. So many memorable plays, Holy Buckeye and 4th and 14 come to mind.

4. Terrelle Pryor: Pryor is really coming into his own this season and while there is still a lot of imrpovement to be made, I think he'll progress just fine and lead this team to at least 1 NC. Could become #1 if he can make the strides like Smith did and not lay an egg like Smith did.

5. Bobby Hoying: The fact that this guy never lead OSU to a NC is a shame. He was a winner and had some powerful weapons on offense that helped him lead OSU to several top finishes.

Great Great List!!! But I don't think we beat TSUN in 2003 with Krenzel even if we had a running game.

Maybe, maybe not......impossible to say now, but we were within a TD of tying the game and had possession of the ball. A running game may have made the difference (more importantly if Clarett was there and healthy). Even if we lose to UM that year, had we beaten Wisky, we probably still would've made the NC game. Oklahoma lost there last game of the year and made it into the NC game. We could've made it as a 1 loss team, although I doubt it. But I'll always believe that with Clarett the 2003 team repeats. 14 players drafted to the NFL off that team in that draft alone!

I wouldn't even have him in the top ten right now. Kern, Greene, Schlichter, Tomczak, Frey, Hoying, Germaine, Krenzel, Smith, Boeckman right off the top of my head. I'd probably even throw Karsatos and Bret Powers in there.

Todd Boeckman over Pryor?

Tomczak threw too many picks in critical situations to be ranked very highly on my list, but Pryor is climbing into that top te pretty quickly.

I personally have a hard time ranking top to bottom because so much is influenced by their surrounding casts. But Pryor has weapons other than his arm that put him on a short list imo.

Pryor is just not that good of a QB. He is one hell of an athlete and overall football player(maybe the best in the nation),but he is below average as a QB
