I have a Kenmore side-by-side that suddenly quit cooling and freezing. I hear a click (relay?) and the compressor seems to try to start. But then it quickly (5-7 seconds) turns back off. The fan underneath is operating ok.

Wondering if the compressor is bad, or the relay? Or something else?

my side by side did the samething it was a relay. It worked for about a week. But after i replaced that I had to replace the compressor to. Im thinking one lead to the other.

I had that same problem last year. Turned out to be the trigger bar for the ice maker was being held in the up position by a box. I had the repair guy come, took him about a 1/2 hour to figure it out. At first he was saying it was probably the relay and then the compressor, just like in the situations listed above.
I forget exactly how he came to realize that it was the ice maker wire thingy. But, I'm glad he did... saved money!

The fridge and freezer are now empty, so I know that isn't it. I sure wish it was though!
