So.....Detroit getting blacked out I am assuming? I can only hope (as a Toledo resident) that this happens all year long.

I don't understand why each station doesn't have a doubleheader.

$$$

The single game (basically national audience) sells a ton of money for advertising. If you split, you cant sell that space for nearly as much money.

How do they decide who gets the doubleheader?

Alternate CBS/Fox each week (each gets 9, as they both carry a double-header week 17 I think it is). They also alternate the Super Bowl each year with NBC (was ABC fore about 10 years). So each network will get it every 3 years.

It's doesn't have to do with the national game, it's that they don't want 2 games in all the markets where their team is playing. For example, nobody is going to watch the other game opposite the Jets in New York, and nobody is going to watch the other game in Cleveland opposite the Browns.

Right. But you get a doubleheader later in those markets if you only get the single game early (as in Indianapolis for 4 years...it sucked).

But they dont want competing games because of money. Ratings would suck for the competing game thus no advertising sales. But that is for specific markets. For markets without a specific team, they will still only show one game at 4.

Basically, no matter what exactly the reasons are, it has to do with ability to make money off of advertising sales.

Detroit got an extension to sell 2,000 tickets. Generally anyone that gets the extension ends up selling out.

Thanks to that, Toledo gets blessed with the Lions once again.

That map puts me right on the line between getting the Steelers game and getting the Browns game. Hopefully I get the Steelers.

Love it that San Diego is blacked out cause they can't sell out a home game.
