Spinoff of "Ghost encounters" thread. Anybody ever have one? I had a little run-in with a pissed off mountain lion today.

I'm out in So Cal on vacation with my girlfriend. We are staying with my brother and his wife. This morning my brother and I decided to go mountain biking on Black Star Canyon. This trail takes you on about a 9.5 mile climb over 2,500 vertical feet. Its out in the middle of nowhere, nothing around but peaks and valleys. Anyways, I was taking a brief break to drink some gatorade while my brother went ahead. After about 30 seconds he yelled back "get your ass up here" I rode around the curve and he was standing off of his bike. Before I had time to ask him what was going on I saw that there was a large mountain lion standing on the trail about 15 yards in front of us. He took a few steps toward us and let out one of those yells or whatever the hell you wan to call it. He looked at us for a few more seconds and then took another step closer, probably about 10 yards away at this point. At this point we put our bikes up on their back tires and started making noise. He stopped in his tracks and looked at us for another 10-15 seconds before taking off down the hill. I never felt like he could take us down or anything like that but it still had me very nervous.

I got mauled by a dog when I was 3 or 4. I don't remember it at all but I guess it got me good. Several stitches and surgery.

If shooting a big ass buck sitting in a treestand at about 6:30 in the morning counts, then yes, I've had many "animal encounters".

I got bit by a dog in the face when i was 8 or so. Got a little scar on my chin from it, and $1000 from the insurance company.

I was once confronted by a spider. A great big huge mutant thing that was as big as my fist. It reared up its front legs at me.
So, I did the natural thing. I screamed like a little girl and called for backup!

Nope, don't live in West Virginia or Kentucky. I've not had any animal "encounters" if that is what they are being called now. :D

I came across a mountain lion last summer at about 3:00 in the morning, but thankfully I had my truck. Mountain Lions are pussies. Just make yourself look as big as you can and make a lot of noise and they are gone.

At first the title of this thread scared me a little. But of course I had to look. Memorial day weekend 2005 I'm in the U.P. riding my bicycle on Whitefish Pt. rd. on my way to Whitefish Point from Paradise. To say there was little traffic is an understatement. Pretty soon I see movement up on a close ridge running parallel to the road. Now, I've seen coyotes while out deer hunting but I think this was a wolf. He was as wary of me as I was him. I didn't have any illusions on my 21-speed being able to outrun him. That's when I silently thanked Michigan for having CHL reciprocity with Ohio, just in case he got the hankering for some Buckeye meat. Soon a car came up and saw him too. It stopped and A teenage boy with a camera started up the ridge to get a close-up picture and it ran off. I watched my back the rest of the ride, just in case!

Never been up that way in the summer but have been to Paradise many many time on a snow mobile. Nothing as scary as rounding a curve on a snow mobile at 35- 40 mph to see a moose standing in the middle of the trail!!! Yikes!!

Just yesterday I pulled in my driveway at lunch and my hubby's truck was sitting there with the tailgate down. I got out of my car and started to walk in the door, when I realized there was a huge, ugly opossum staring at me from a cage in the back of his truck. 'Bout pissed my pants.

back in mid 90's while i was at Muskingum College i lived on the bottom level of the frat house facing a large wooded area. I used to throw a lot of food out the window, table scraps and such. it is a pretty low window with no screen. one night shortly after throwing some food out i hear a roar/yell that made me freeze....i literally couldnt move i looked and im there face to face with a bobcat......although it was smallish it was way louder than i was expecting and im not going to lie i was def scurrred.......

Been bitten by a copperhead...sort of...had thick socks on and it was a baby, so it got snagged and didn't break the skin

Had a pissed off momma bear standing on her hind legs yelling - was with my now ex-wife at the time...we hit the ground just as I had seen on the Discovery Channel...in hindsight, I would've said, "no honey, it's okay, that means she wants you to pet her"

Scared myself by humming the Jaws theme while backfloating in the ocean (you know how that amplifies the sound in your head)...i hightailed it for the shore after doing so....a little bit later a small boy was attacked by a shark and died just down the beach a ways

Not exactly "animals" but I've been attacked by very birds/fowl on 4 different occasions. Was also attacked by a ram that butted me into a barbed wire fence. Also got chased by a skunk when I just got home from the bar after a night of drinking at about 3am.

If shooting a Water Buffalo that you ran over, stuck under the a ¾ military truck load with beer, chips, dry ice and steaks for your squad, while driving stoned with only sergeant and myself, back to a base camp for a stand down party, with less that 2 hours of day light, off of Highway One in Vietnam, ….I would say ..YES
