You are right, might as well have the pennant hanging ceremony tomorrow before the game.

Sounds like a little sarcasm.....but the last two years they have done this and go on to winning the pennant. The Phillies have alot to work to do still and it is going to be a battle the rest of the year. Still have 6 games left with Atlanta....

They need to tighten up the middle relief. Madson and Lidge have been solid as of late in the 8th and 9th.

Yah my grandpa as well he was there for game 1,2 and 6. He has been a season ticket holder for about 40 years. I got to go to the 2008 and 2009 World Series...because of him.

I've said before that I'd like the Braves to make the playoffs to give Bobby Cox a proper send-off. I respect him as a coach and would like it if he closed out his career by getting to the off-season to see if he can have a truly golden moment by going out on top.

But...I'm a Teampirates fan. I remember 1991-92 vividly (the two best years I've personally witnessed, as I started following baseball in '84 or '85...can't remember...Rhoden and Reuschel were the top two pitchers). Atlanta kept my team from a potential World Series in heartbreaking fashion.

I can't deny it. Regardless of my respect for Bobby C. (name given that way so my OC existence doesn't revolve around me exclaiming my "respect for 'Cox'"), I am loving the possibility that Braves fans might (due to the late stage of the season) wind up pointing to a lost series against the worst team in the game as a big reason why they didn't make the postseason.

Sour grapes? No doubt about it, but I'll not apologize for that!

Only negative thing: I joined a late eight-person fantasy league because the ytownwhatever woman wanted to start one for her little brother. Of the eight, only four have really participated and we're all in a near-deadlock position. I have Hudson. I figured he'd (as a crafty, skilled vet) would dominate. Couldn't he have lost 1-0 instead of 5-0 with four of those runs being his?

Hudson was dominant last night until that 6th inning. Heyward misplayed a ball that should have had kept it at 2-0 with 2 outs. Either way, the Braves bats need to wake up soon or they will be on the outside looking in when October rolls around.

Really, that pitching match-up worked out just like I expected...with roles reversed.

McDonald pitched 7 shut-out innings. Got into trouble a couple of times, but got out of it unscathed. I figured Hudson would do that.

Hudson was lock-down for six innings...and then things imploded in the seventh. While I would have picked the fourth, fifth or sixth inning for the implosion, that's what I expected from McDonald.

...not that I'm aware of...the last guiness book I saw didn't even have that particular record and surely it's been broken many times over the past 55 years

So the Phillies are still ahead 1 game in the East with the Braves leading the wildcard. The Phillies were able to take 2 of 3 from the Mets While the Braves split a 4 game series with the Slumping Cards. The Phillies travel to Florida for a 3 game series while the Braves stay at home and take on the Nats. This race is going to be tight all they way till the last series of the year when the Phillies travel to Atlanta for a weekend series in the 1st month of October.

I look at magic numbers as more depressing than funny...but that might be because I'm a Pirates fan and, so, my team's magic number is "how many games until they're mathematically eliminated" instead of "how many games until they clinch the postseason".

And we hit that number earlier than usual (even for us) this year.
