From 6 to 3 games.
I doubt this happens. I think it should be reduced....but no way Goodell drops it by half.

Ya don't say! Of course he wants it reduced. But there is no way Goodel goes below the 4 he said was minimum. Might get only 4, but I highly doubt less.

I posted because they wanted to cut in half....which I found surprising.

It does seem like the Georgia stuff is a distant memory now.
Ben has gone about his business at training camp like a professional and carried himself well off the field by all accounts.
I'm not saying it will happen but I think they can present a solid case to have the suspension reduced, significantly.

The consensus has been that it would be 4 games. Does anyone have info on why Goodell gave him 6?
I actually thought 4 was the precedent, why so harsh on the Stiller?

I think Goodell is pretty much his own judge and jury. That could work in Ben's favor just as it worked against him back when the suspension was handed out.
Goodell gathered as much information as possible and made his own decision. Thus he could now change his mind and configure the suspension however he wants.

4 games/6 games...it really doesn't matter much, but I fail to see how Ben's infractions were "more detrimental to the game" by two games than the precedent set earlier.
Smells like bullshit to me.

yeh, it will probably get knocked down to 4.
Let me tell you, Ben's brief interview on WFIN in Findlay 2 weeks ago would lead you to believe that he has learned nothing at all.
Not humble. Not contrite.
"yeah...I think it will get reduced....the commissioner will make his decision, and hopefully it is a good one."

Is he supposed to lie and say he doesn't care if it gets reduced?

I think it is the way he basically said if the commissioner doesn't reduce it, the commissioner is making a bad decision. It may be bad for Ben, but that wouldn't necessarily mean it was the wrong (or a bad) decision on the commissioner's part. It just kind of highlights that thinking that he's entitled to whatever he sees fit in life, and that is exactly what people would say got him in trouble in the first place (and also what is dangerous about him).

It seems like Goodell goes overboard on purpose when he hands out discipline and maybe it is so that he can eventually portray himself as fair because he gives people the chance to have the suspensions reduced? Yet, there is still a significant punishment even if he backs off before it ends.

I haven't heard the interview. But I'm guessing it was more a "I think reducing it is a good decision because I've done what they asked and everyone will agree that I've been on my best behavior" rather than a "I deserve it because I'm me" sort of way.

entitlement.
no lesson learned.
If he had handlers worth their salt, the quote probably should have been something like..."Well, right now I'm concentrating on football and being the best teammate and community member I can; those decisions I will leave to the commissioner. I will be ready to play when the time comes, and I hope the fans will see evidence of my work ethic in my behavior...etc. etc. etc." I mean, even if you don't mean it...it is a more humble response.

I didn't hear it either...and I don't have an opinion one way or the other. But if those were the exact words, at the least I would say it was poor word choice if you are trying to change your image. He may have said other things, but if those were the only words....he just can't leave anything open for interpretation in his situation. I would have no reason to assume the "because" that you say was implied. I'm not surprised at all that it rubbed people who already have a negative opinion of him the wrong way.

Reports saying that it will be a 4-game suspension. Think (for ytownfootball) the Goodell original was a bizarre 4 or 6 game deal where he'd make his final decision based on how things went down between the day he announced the suspension and the beginning of the regular season. Which makes as much sense as most disciplinary actions Herr Commish divvies out.
I hadn't heard about the request for a three-game suspension. Personally, I'd rather it be 4 than 3 if I had to choose between those two numbers. Coming in cold against the Browns is a lot better prospect than coming in cold against a Ravens team that's had three weeks to build some momentum. Better to get that first action against a team that's not expected to win more than 6-8 games (even by their own fans) than a defensively-oriented team that's being looked at as a viable Super Bowl contender.

Goodell must have thought 'Huh well it's been several months since he's assaulted a woman so let's reduce his ban'

Big Ben also said he was from Cory-Rawson, Ohio when he thought the people in Findley were acting like he was one of theirs, etc.
Problem is, Big Ben is now no longer from a town in Ohio as Cory-Rawson doesnt exist. Its either Cory, or its Rawson.
