It's that time of year again! This time it's Earl's turn...

Looks like NC might get hammered!

See the path

Was just down in Oak Island, NC this past weekend. Everyone down there was already talking about Earl coming through. Should hit sometime tonight through the day tomorrow.

At least it's not heading into the gulf. I quite like the gas prices to stay right where they are.

How many NC cities are built below sea level with a levy problem neglected by the state?

Apparently they have evacuated Okracoke. My grandmother lives down there on a seasonal/vacation type basis; thankfully she is in C-Bus right now. Last I heard, though, they weren't even sure if Earl was going to hit NC.

Wonder if it's a backlash thing from Katrina where they evacuate anyone close to the path no questions asked.

Maybe D.C would be a better target.

Mines at Cherry Point. Like I said they are flying out in the morning so I'm guessing they are preparing for the hit. Lejuene is within an hour of cp

hang in there NC.

have been evacuated before....with Bertha I think, if I recall correctly in 1996.
it was not fun at all....every vehicle in the Outer Banks negotiating Rt. 12 at the same time...

also arrived 1 week after Floyd in 1999.......the beach walk and bridge were completely lost.

as with everything...every perfect thing is balanced by an imperfect reality...

for the Outer Banks...it is perfection with the occasional hurricane.

God Speed, Hatteras Island.

I think they evacuated okcacoke because it is the only inhabited island in North Carolina with no road link to the island; you have to take an auto ferry, so it is much more slow going.

I'm inland about 200 miles in Charlotte but I am astonished at the little amount of attention that is being paid to Earl on the news. The only weather change we are going to get from Earl is close to 100 degree weather but still in Ohio if something of this magnitude happened or was to happen in Columbus I am sure the Cleveland news would make a big deal about it.
