Just because of low numbers for the football team, I don't agree with favoritism to the football coach and allowing recruiting tactics from other fall sports just to fill a roster.
Gotcha. I still don't think there is anything wrong with it. As someone else already stated, ultimately it is up to the kid to decide what he wants to do. I would think any coach with a struggling program (or a program short on numbers) is going to try and get kids to come out for the team, especially if that kid can contribute....and in turn, if that kid can experience the rewards that go along with sports.
In your case, maybe it is highlighted because its football and sometimes there's a perception that football is the favorite (deservedly - its the cash cow). But if a cross country coach tried to recruit a football player, nobody would be mad...they'd just laugh.
