That is pretty idiotic. Furyk is one of my favorite golfers and no way he would do this intentionally and the Barclays is a bigger tournament.

The Barclays is the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and Furyk is currently 3rd in the standings. This won't eliminate him from the playoffs but it definitely could hurt his bid for a huge payday at the Players. I can understand if he was late for his tee time for the actual event, but the damned Pro-Am? Get real. The last few weeks have not looked very good for the PGA ruleswise.

He said he uses his phone for an alarm(as do A LOT of people) and when he woke up, the phone had no power or something like that.

You guys don't get it, and I don't blame you.
But Pro-Ams make up a large amount of revenue that the tournament site generates, especially at an event where there are marquee players. If the PGA instituted no such rule that if you skip the Pro Am you can't play in the tournament, then no one would play in Pro Ams and the tournament site would lose a lot of revenue.
The only reason they instituted this rule in 2004 was because a lot of pros were skipping pro ams for mysterious reasons (obviously they didn't want to play).
Now, does it suck for Furyk? Yes. But a rules a rule.

What don't we get? He didn't skip the Pro-Am did he? He was 6 minutes late and he was disqualified from the actual event. Don't talk down to us like you are the almighty when it comes to the PGA tour.

You, and apparently everyone else on here don't get the importance of the Pro Am.

Rules are rules, so I agree with the PGA on that, however, how about a fine or something instead of kicking him out of this week's tournament??? He didn't intend on missing the event, sometimes things happen like this, I think the penalty was a bit harsh though.

Uhhhh we get the rule..but rules can be mended and they should here. He wasn't skipping out to get a blowie from John Daly's hooker, he overslept and was 6 minutes late.

I teach 65 miles from my house. My school begins at 7:25. I've been late 1 time in 13 years and that was because I was stuck in traffic behind a dumbass woman afraid to go down an icy hill. She backed up traffic for 45 minutes and nearly 6 miles......waiting for a salt truck. That being said I left 10 minutes earlier than usual that day.
On occasion I'll snooze the alarm and doze off for another 15 minutes and put myself into a rat race that I hate to start the day with.....but I get there.....without penalty.

That's not what I'm referring to.
I'm referring to all of the posts...."who cares, it's just a pro am" or posts made with similar zeal.
I'm just saying that the reason the PGA is a bunch of douchebags about a PRO AM is because it's actually extremely important too, not just some worthless venture during the middle of the PGA week and that golfers felt it was worthless so something had to be done.
You guys just completely overreacted over my post. Saying I'm high and mighty, seriously? Maybe I guess there was a misinterpretation somewhere, but whatever, don't get your panties in a bunch.

Ok, so the Pro-Am is a bigger deal than I thought. Still, this is completely stupid to severely punish the guy for an honest mistake. CLEARLY he wasn't trying to skip the event or wasn't just taking his time to get there if he arrived with no socks, untied shoes, and an untucked shirt.
