You didn't just happen to post this as your status, did you?

Also, fuck the Big Ten.

I will punch Jim Delaney square in the mouth if this happens (ok maybe not, but c'mon...). Fuck this makes me upset just thinking about it.

Tradition is for people who live in the past. I'm glad to see the Big Ten finally showing some forward thinking. Eventually, they'll quit blocking a national play-off.

That article makes great points for why they should be in the same division and play the last regular season game.

Indeed I did. Tradition is still tradition. Has nothing to do with living in the past. It's what every Michigan/OSU fan looks forward to. That last game of the season. The whole season builds up to that last final regular season game. Not something that should be messed with, IMO.

The total ineptitude of scUM over the past few years threatens the rivalry more than this does.

WRONG.....

Even though the Buckeyes have won 6 straight does not mean they are still not Michigan. Yes we have won 6 straight but lets not forget when Michigan did whatever they wanted to against the Buckeyes. From 1985-2003 Michigan was 13-5-1 against the Buckeyes and that didn't hurt the rivalry.

Tradition is based on the past, and is defined by Webster as "a part of culture that is passed from person to person or generation to generation..."

change is inevitable, and getting used to change always takes time--but that certainly doesn't mean we have to frickin' like it!!!

OSU could win 20 in a row, and this game would still mean just as much.

Agreed. I do "change management" for a living, so I'm used to the negative response. But one of the poorest business answers I hear on a daily basis is "...because we've always done it this way". In this particular case, there are certainly a lot of emotions involved for OSU and Michigan - I assume there's going to be a lot of hell raising over this. But what is best for OSU and Michigan isn't necessarily what is best for the Big Ten, difficult as that may be for some to understand. And eventually, that old guard will die off and no one will care.

I see where you're coming from, and even though I don't like to see this particular situation change,I realize it may be done for the betterment of the whole...but it will be tough to take.

This is a mistake and there isn't a viable argument that makes this change necessary....

Although Oklahoma and Texas is a strong rivalry and its played early in the year......of course it doesn't even come close to the UM/OSU rivalry.

They also are in the same divisoion and never risk playing eachother for the big 12 title.

Thats true. But the difference is, although Mich dominated during those years...OSU still had some very good teams. UM has flat out sucked lately. Its not necessarily a bad things when one time goes on streak...as long as both teams are good. But when one is not good...it certainly takes the luster out of the game.
As for tradition...as Speilman and Hoolie were saying today on the show....its definately not going to be the same as it has been. Its still going to be a big game...but probably no different then a big game against a quality team like Wisky or PSU. Times are changing.

The game will be fine. There will still be a 1 yr buildup and a crazy week before the game. Michigan can play ND early and MSU late in the year. OSU still plays another big time team early and maybe can find another rival to play every year late.

Doesn't even come close in what regard?

Rivalry and intensity....Texas fans would rather beat A & M than OU...that is an indisputable fact. I am surrounded by UT fans all day long...they want to beat OU, but they look at the rivalry with ATM with much more intensity....

The Red River Shootout is a fun game..always being played at the Texas state fair....but it doesnt rank anywhere near the top of NCAA rivalries...maybe somewhere outside the top ten.

OSU/UM
Army/Navy
Auburn/Alabama
UT/ATM
Fla/Ga
USC/UCLA
Duke/UNC
Harvard/Yale
Pitt/WVU

just to name a few better rivalries in no particular order

Pitt/West Virginia belongs on there. Duke/North Carolina doesn't if we are talking just football. Harvard/Yale is big for them but outside of the Northeast, no one cares.

I agree, this would suck. Third Saturday of every November is marked on the calendar no matter what the records are, I think changing it would make it just another big game.

This game has to be at the end of the year, or the season and the big ten will never be the same.
