They won yesterday but it's been a rough season for the Cubbies. Never a factor.

After winning the division in 2007 and 2008, and finishing second in 2009, their window has closed and they're back in rebuilding mode.

I think even the Pirates have a winning record against them, and you know that's not a good thing.

Apparently he missed a series recently because his mom is not doing well. He has said she now needs his full attention. I don't think he is the type of guy to check out because his team is not doing well. I hate it when people say stuff that isn't true.

One of the favorite managers in baseball. You never knew what was going to happen next with Lou.

He hasn't been looking too hot lately. I saw them on FOX yesterday and was surprised at how rough he looked.

Yeah I also said that before this statement was released. I hope all is well an works out for him and his family.

I agree with you in that I don't think he is that type of guy; but it happens all the time.

Braves send Sweet Lou out with a rude 16-5 beating. Heyward and Infante hit 2 HR's each and both had 4 hits, 4 runs scored, and 4 RBI.

Never really been a fan of Lou's. But after watching his tearful goodbye after today's game, I have a new found liking for him.

Lou is one of the good guys in the game, a firey guy who wanted his club to win but also a great guy to have around, despite what people think.
As many an umpire know, he was always a guy who would fight for his team.

puts the club in a tough position...essentially a lame duck situation with a manager whom you know will not be there in 2011; ideally management has to take these 2010 "rebuilding" weeks to take inventory of player development and what the outlook and direction is for the future.

This is hard to do with a full-time manager who announces essentially, "I am your manager this season, but on Oct. 3, I retire".

I had the thought mentioned above...maybe Lou was ill........hopefully that is not the case....

My regards remain firmly in support of this crazy, hot-headed, base-throwing manager who managed to navigate the shark-infested waters of perhaps two of the worst owners to work for in MLB history........Marge Schott and George Steinbrenner.

Sweet Lou deserves the HOF for that fact alone.

and he brought the Reds home a winner in 1990.

Exactly. Theres a lot of managers now that will not argue a call. Acta and Wedge both are this way, neither one of them really stand up when their players argue a call. They run out say a couple words and usher the player back into the dugout. Why would someone want to play for a manager like that? Lou stood up for his players and for that they and many others respect him.
