Like last year, Ohio State has been selected to wear Nike's Pro Combat Uniforms in one game this year.

My hunch, because Nike and the athletic department both like money, is that the uniforms will be worn at home this year. That way, rabid memorabilia-collecting guy on your block can own a home and away jersey. Nike likes to pit the teams wearing the one-off uniforms against non-Nike schools, and those teams on the 2010 slate would be Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Northwestern, and the three non-conference schools that haven’t welcomed Luther Campbell to their sidelines. Indiana and Northwestern are obviously out as candidates, leaving just the Badgers and the Wolverines. Since the Wisconsin game is on the road…

I knew we'd end up wearing the red ones.

This past January one of these jerseys popped up on Ebay, definitely a prototype, so I knew eventually we'd see these on the field.

They're ok. I like that gray is back on the sleeves but that's about it.

I hate this one less than the one they wore last year, but I hate how small the number on the front and back of the jersey is and the lack of the number on the shoulder. These probably won't have their names on the back either, which makes it nearly impossible to see who's who on the field, especially if you're in the stands like I was last year.

Or up in the booth for that matter.

It's hard enough to see who's who out there once subs start coming in. It was extremely tough last year calling the Purdue game at the Schott because Purdue wore their black on black jerseys. Luckily basketball only has 5 people so it's easier but still, making uniform numbers hard to see isn't exactly a good thing.

These are ugly and in no way resemble the jerseys they were meant to represent. Just nike doing its thing.

HMMMM if you read the article and take at face value the truth of Blake's statement, then that picture is NOT the one we'll be using . If you read Blake's comment and then look at the caption under the picture, then the uniforms we'll be wearing are different.

The uniform in the picture is the same one I referenced to an Ebay auction of.

The thing that bugs me the most about the tiny number isn't even the fact that you can't tell who anyone is, but more the fact that OSU used to be known for having some of the biggest jersey numbers in college football (I even had someone comment to me at an away game once that they always liked our jersey's because of the large readable numbers).

Here's what I want to know: if these uniforms are supposed to be more light weight and durable and give a competitive advantage, why are we only wearing them one game a year? Why aren't are normal everyday jersey's being made out of these special new materials? I also want to know why Nike wants to go with a design that's actually pretty far from what the normal jersey's look like? I understand that may help sell more jersey's, but why not keep the numbers on the shoulders and make the numbers on the front bigger, but still do them in gray instead of white? I think you'd sell just as many even if you kept it close to the look of the normal jersey's.

True though I have a feeling the uni in the pic is probably going to be an analog to what we see on the field this year. As long as they don't have the stupid shit on the shoulders (see Oregon)......

I'm going to reserve judgment until I actually see them on the field.

Those uniforms (and last year's) are atrocious. I love how Nike and OSU hides behind the BS about them honoring a team from the 50s. Those look nothing like the old ones. Just call this what it is, a cash grab. Nothing like selling out.

PS the reason people like these is b/c they say Nike. I'm guessing if they put an Asics or new balance logo on these, they'd be panned.

I thought the white ones were pretty sweet last year. Always rock them in NCAA 11

I hate that Nike is always doing this. Leave the jerseys alone.

Yep, I totally base my Jersey purchase off of what brand it is

They actually have changed the uniform to the same "specs"(if you will) as the Pro Combat uni from the Michigan game last year.

They came out, I think, right after the season ended. I'll try to dig up the article...

Here's the picture that Nike had up on their website for awhile...It's basically just a lighter material, moisture wicking or whatever, and more form fitting. And a raised logo on the thigh pad to show through the pants.

As OneBuckeyes' picture shows, all these people bitching about "tradition" only say that because the uniform has been the same in their lifetime. The helmet as we know it is only 40 years old. I am an alumni and could care less if they wear a different uniform every now and then. The tradition argument is bullshit
