Here is the national ranking list:

Comments:
1) Generally, I think these ratings are crap and easily gamed (Washington - St. Louis I'm looking at you).
2) WTF happened to Michigan? It was always top 25 to my recollection.
3) Miami (OH) that low? Ridiculous.

The tuition and fees at some of these schools are ridiculous. I really hope that my kids are geniuses or amazing athletes so they can get some scholarships!

As a Miami grad, I am not surprised to see them drop this low. It is a great school, but when you factor such things as tuition, and "alumni giving rate," then it definitely makes sense to me why they dropped. Look at their tuition. They are a state school yet their tuition rivals a private school.

Have to be a legal resident for 2 years. My dad lives there and looked into it for me.The tuition and fees at some of these schools are ridiculous. I really hope that my kids are geniuses or amazing athletes so they can get some scholarships!
UNC, $6,000 in state, $25,000 out of state. Man that is cheap. Thank goodness my brother lives in state. I am sending my kids down there.

Its usually just a 'have your mail sent there for 2 years type of deal'. Thats at least how Florida is when I looked into USF.

I think most states it probably is. But supposedly NC looks into work records and all that junk. Or at least that is what NC State told him.Have to be a legal resident for 2 years. My dad lives there and looked into it for me.

UNC-CH is ridiculously hard to get into as an out-of-stater. It's basically like trying to get into an Ivy. North Carolina residents are very lucky to have such a great state university. Chapel Hill is an awesome college town, the ACC sports scene is a big plus, and the university's academics are top-notch, especially among public schools.
I'm surprised to see that UVa keeps falling a little each year too. USC and UCLA passed it up this year.

Agreed, that it is tied with Wake Forest is a joke. This is why I don't take the rankings seriously, no one turns down UVA to go to Wake, nothing against Wake.

Really, really odd rankings, IMO.
Immediately discount it due to where Michigan is at, and UVA for that matter.

I for one liked Ohio State being ranked 8th in City and Regional Planning.

Five years ago, UNC (and maybe the other NC state-supported schools?) required that 90% of their freshman class come from North Carolina high schools. That's why it's so difficult to get in for an out-of-stater. Still, out-of-state tuition is a bargain compared to private-school rates in the Northeast - when we went for a campus visit, at least half the kids on the tour were from the "Cowbird States" - (Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey).
They look into the residency thing BIG TIME. We actually considered buying a condo in Chapel Hill for my nephew (with his late parents money), but quickly found out that he had to also be employed full time for two years without attending college to avoid "moving primarily for education purposes" status. Never mind he lived there for twelve years before his parents died. We filed for an exemption status, but were turned down.
